LET THE WHOLE THING BLOW
B A S I C I N F O
★ NAME: Gabriel Royce Edwards
★ NICKNAME: Roy diAngelo (pen name), Gabe (NOT advisable, will be met with a violent reaction)
★ MEMBER GROUP: Human
★ POKEMON: Natu
★ STATUS: N/A
★ AGE: 21
★ HEIGHT: 5'8"
★ WEIGHT: 119 lbs
★ FACE CLAIM: Light Yagami from Death Note
★ APPEARANCE:
Gabriel isn't an overly noteworthy individual at first glance. He has short chocolate brown hair that feathers down in silky waves free of tangles or snarls, almost always freshly cleaned. His skin is soft with few callouses, the male choosing to forgo physical labor as a possible career path even if he is careful to keep his body in peak physical condition. His fingers are long and tapered, the nails elegantly taken care of even if they are a tad rugged on the edges, the result of attempting to break an old habit of chewing on them. The roughest patches of skin lie, predictably, on his hands - his ring finger and the area around the side of his thumb and knuckle - as the results of a pen clutched incorrectly in his hand in childhood and then ingrained through a lifetime of scribbling. The opposite side of his right hand is almost always covered in the remains of ink and occasionally graphite as well. His eyes are a beautiful shade of sharp honey coloring that can easily manage to pierce through his surroundings to determine the truth.
Gabriel is quite picky about his appearance, and as such, he rarely makes the choice to forgo his usual attire and prefers to keep to himself in order to maintain his level of decorum. He is rarely without pen and paper, usually a black notebook, and his wristwatch, a fine piece of elegance with an older style marble-esque face and gold-leaf Roman numerals. His watch runs forty seconds slower than usual time and the date function no longer advances. In private, he enjoys wearing collared polo shirts, short- or long-sleeved, though in public he usually wears button-up dress shirts paired with a suit jacket or an elegant coat. It is a rare occurrence to catch him without a tie or a pair of black or brown slacks, ironed and creased to perfection. His footwear of choice is known to be a pair of black or brown loafers shined until they gleam, though he will relent and don a pair of beat-up old tennis shoes whose color has since darkened from pristine white to dark tan. A reporter and spokesperson should try to look his very best at all times, after all.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
★ POSITIVE:
- Intelligent;; Gabriel is surprisingly quick-witted, the majority of his knowledge coming from books, although he is also aided by his gift of a photographic memory, a useful aid in his line of work.
- Stubborn;; If Gabriel, with his keen investigative instincts, senses a story is going to be big, he will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of it, and even threats would have to be pretty explicit to force compliance from him.
- Cagey;; Gabriel is a difficult person to pin down, particularly verbally since his career as a wordsmith renders him quite adept at exploiting any and all loopholes in others' words should he so choose to, which he usually does.
- Analytical;; A man of reason, Gabriel is not one for impulsive behavior and prefers to rely on logic, and as such, it is rare for him to make rash actions or take a gamble on something if the odds are not in his favor.
- Honorable;; Even if what Gabriel does may not always be on the straight and narrow, he does have his own set of moral guidelines that he will not step over for anything, and if someone tramples over them, he will not hesitate to strike back.
- Tactically-minded;; Gabriel has the prowess of a general going to war, and as such, he can often come up with new ways to go about a fight whether it's physical or verbal, though this advantage may not always pay off until the long run reaches him.
- Resourceful;; A human in a world full of powerful Gijinka and Pokemon, it is a wonder that Gabriel still can consider himself not only powerful but damn near unmatched, and that is because he is able to make use of what he's given and turn it to his advantage.
- Perspicacious;; Gabriel's senses overall are quite keen, particularly in regard to spotting irregularities in his surroundings, and when combined with his stubbornness and his reliance on logic, he will mull over information for hours upon end until he has put the pieces together properly in his mind to form the finished puzzle.
- Prepared;; Gabriel is rarely without pen (or pencil, though the man prefers ink to graphite when he has a choice on what to stain his hands with) and paper, mostly so that he is able to write whenever muse strikes him, though he also carries a watch as well, in addition to a few other items, so it's actually a rare occurrence to catch him by surprise with some task he has to perform.
- Punctual;; Gabriel hates to be late to things, something bred into him from his sheer dislike for deadlines, and as such, he will always be on-time for something he is forced to attend, sometimes even early if the mood strikes him.
★ NEGATIVE:
- Bookish;; Gabriel is quite intelligent, however, he is almost too much so since the majority of his knowledge actually comes from books and thus he remains unproven in what people call "street smarts".
- Calculating;; Gabriel puts a lot of thought into what he does before he acts, and while that may usually be a good thing, in most cases it isn't since he will often choose to remain outside of a fray that does not directly involve him unless he feels he has something to gain from participating.
- Under-handed;; If push comes to shove, Gabriel has a certain talent for turning things against someone through the power of the written word, and with his connections and personal skill, he can turn almost any press for his own purposes.
- Fierce-tempered;; Gabriel isn't usually one for anger, preferring to hide his feelings and pour them out in his writing instead, but if someone annoys him, he has nothing against using violence or his Pokemon to settle things.
- Vengeful;; Gabriel never forgets a wrong that has been done to him, and as a result, he will wait for as long as he needs to in order to exact his revenge, and he's not afraid to make use of the various pieces of knowledge he's gained... such as what berries create rather uncomfortable sensations within the body when mixed together.
- Unbending;; If someone tries to force Gabriel to go down to a knee, he would never do it unless he was more or less blackmailed into it with the death of someone he holds very dear, and for that, he can be quite the opponent since when he knows he's right, he won't throw away his ideas just to please someone more powerful than him.
- Tight-lipped;; Despite the fact that he is a writer and it is his job to bring to life fantastic worlds and unbelievable realities (fictitious or otherwise), Gabriel can be surprisingly recalcitrant to divulge secrets entrusted to him, to the point where getting something out of him constitutes more vagaries and lying by omission than a con man's lawyer.
- Shallow;; Gabriel is the type of man who can easily get hung up on the appearance of things, and if he doesn't like how something appears to him, he will expend whatever amount of time and effort he will have to put forth in order to make reality fit with the image he carries in his head.
- Slovenly;; Despite the amount of care Gabriel takes to look his best, he is actually quite unorganized, and indeed, if one cares to take a look in his office, there are piles of paper everywhere and, unless the man has worked on it recently, finding pieces is usually a challenge that involves hunting through the stacks - it's not that Gabriel doesn't want to get organized, far from it, he simply never gets around to it.
- Petty;; Gabriel's pride may not be what rules his life, mainly since he chooses to listen to his head, but even so, he's not above taking offense to the most childish of things and will even see fault in the most insignificant of details since, to him, words are the sharpest weapon any person could ever possess because a sword or a knife simply ends a life while a word could ruin you for the rest of your life and still manage to endure to slander your name.
★ HABITS, QUIRKS:
- The less sleep he gets, the milder Gabriel sort of becomes, more likely to simply obey orders rather than question them as he usually does.
- Gabriel tends to be rather persnickety in that he does not like people touching his things even to help organize.
- Gabriel and food have an awkward relationship in that he will forgo it when seized with muse, and even when he isn't engaged in writing, he will occasionally skip meals if he simply cannot be bothered to cook anything.
- Gabriel doesn't like when his nails get too long and is actually currently trying to break his habit of chewing on them when searching for muse or reaching for the best word to use to properly describe what he sees in his mind's eye.
- If Gabriel is in a location without some sort of noise, he has a hard time falling asleep, so he will often sleep with a Pokemon curled up at his side when he's not sleeping in the printing room itself.
- Gabriel will read anything and everything he can get his hands on when he's bored, though he has a certain fondness for newspapers and scientific literature, devouring them with habitual zeal.
- Just because Gabriel has no real talent for drawing doesn't mean he won't occasionally attempt to illustrate some of the things he envisions in his head, so he'll sometimes dabble in photography and sketching when he's feeling particularly pensive about something.
★ OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Gabriel is the kind of person who is rather easy and rather hard to describe all at once. He is rarely seen without some form of writing nearby, absorbing all of the information he finds and then storing it in his massive memory bank with the aid of his photographic memory. However, due to his intelligence being mostly based off books rather than his own experiences, he isn't really street-smart. He is very obsessed with appearances, and if they don't fit exactly what's in his head, he will not abide by it. While this can be a good thing when running a newspaper, allowing for layouts to be reworked over and over again until it fits the exact vision in his head, it is mainly a bad thing since he will push aside powerful Pokemon or turn away some offers simply because they don't suit the image in his head. He isn't the type to compromise on something, and he won't abandon his ideals for someone's whim. He has his own loyalty, yes, but he follows his own moral code, and violating that will get you nowhere with him. He is very aware of his surroundings and the type of man who would not give up searching for something until the moment he discovered it, something he has trained himself to do since he doesn't like being kept unaware of something important. He is especially aided in this feat with his sharp mind, which will logically examine a situation until he feels he has enough variables to determine the results of something, and when he has those odds, he will make his decision. He isn't the type to bet on a gamble, and that's something that serves him well, especially in a Pokemon battle when he has his Pokemon use moves in conjunction to try to take his opponents by surprise and then press his advantage. His main fault with this type of reasoning, however, is that if he spends too much time ruminating on what might happen, he could miss the chance to turn something to his own advantage.
Gabriel is the type of person who hates to be taken by surprise by anything, particularly in regards to things he needs, and as such he will almost always have the materials he needs (and yet, despite all of this, the guy is actually rather disorganized, most of the flat surfaces in his home covered in stacks of paper that are a nightmare to sort through). Even when he doesn't have exactly what he needs, though, he'll find a way to get a hold of what he needs in order to continue, something that can help him greatly when he's improvising ways out of a situation. Which he needs to do rather often since he's the type to try to hold all the cards going to the table. He will often focus on technicalities of words and try to take advantage of that to get the best deal he can out of someone while at the same time using elusive words himself to try to protect himself from any liability he might obtain. He is not the type of person to anger since he will put a lot of thought into how to hurt you, using tactics that are borderline libel to put you in your place, and even then it's not unlikely that you might get dangled outside of a building by your ankles. He's not the type to forget a grudge either, so even though he might not be a Gijinka, he's still just as much of a danger to cross. One of his biggest pet peeves is actually when people will touch his stuff. Don't do it. Even if you're helping him get the mountain of papers under control, he will hunt you down and do horrible things to him. No one tames his mountains of scribblings but him. No one touches his things but him. No one.
A lot of his personality is what contributes to him being such a good writer and journalist. That doesn't, however, mean that he hasn't picked up his own share of habits from the business. He'll think nothing of sacrificing time, sleep, and food in order to finish something, particularly if he's stressed over a coming deadline or if his muse has taken off in a flight of fancy. These flights can last several days, though Gabriel may not cook for several afterwards simply because he doesn't feel bothered to. He had gotten into the habit of chewing on his nails when he was thinking about what to write next, and the action rubs him in all the wrong ways, so he's been trying to quit the filthy habit - which is almost as much of a sin as being late in his eyes - with limited success. He's more or less consumed entirely by his work, so when he does sleep, he has some rather strange habits. If he doesn't get any sleep, he will slowly become more and more docile, less likely to watch his words and more so to do what someone tells him without question. When he does sleep, however, he's so used to doing so with a printer running in the background that he is actually unable to sleep in situations where there is no background noise, be it mechanical whirring, lungs breathing, or otherwise.

H I S T O R Y
- Gabriel was born the second child to two loving parents. His elder sibling was a year older than him, but Gabriel didn't really mind since even from an early age, he showed a connection with Pokemon, toddling around after his parents' Pokemon, wanting to play with them.
- In a year's time, he wasn't the youngest child in the house. His mother gave birth to twins, who (for the most part) left Gabriel well enough alone. Gabriel was allowed to grow up more or less unmolested by his siblings and instead learned to be responsible and respectable, liked well enough by his peers but preferring to be left well enough alone.
- When Gabriel was ten, he had a fabulous language arts teacher who saw how the boy almost always had his nose in a book. When she asked him how he liked the story, he told her all of the faults with it, and a little stunned by his understanding of it, she challenged him to try writing something better. He may not have attempted something of that magnitude yet, being reluctant to take on a task so large with so little a chance of success, but she managed to talk him into entering an essay contest, which he won. It was then that the boy realized how much he had a taste for writing and began to practice any chance he had.
- As he continued to grow, Gabriel's parents tolerated his odd taste for writing instead of doing much of the normal socializing children his age did, but as he began to become more and more withdrawn, they finally put their foot down. Or at least, they tried to push Gabriel towards a more "respectable" future career. Gabriel disregarded everything they told him and continued to write for pleasure until he turned sixteen, though to assure his parents he wasn't going to turn into a recluse, he accepted a Pokemon given to him by his elder sibling and began to do some light training on the side.
- When he was sixteen, Gabriel was first introduced to newspaper in his school... and the boy loved it. He was a great investigative journalist with an eye to never let go, and under his leadership, the small club at his school became vastly more organized and gained popularity among the students. It was here that Gabriel learned much of his tips and tricks to manipulating the masses using the press, skillfully manipulating the student body to eat out of the palm of his hand while managing to avoid libel and scandal himself.
- When he graduated at eighteen, Gabriel took a job with a little newspaper writing stories. It was a quiet enough job, giving him a little excitement on some of the stories and permitting him to work on some creative writing when he had free time between deadlines. However, it was during this time that someone broke into his apartment and trashed the place, destroying much of his work. It was only later that Gabriel realized that all of his Pokemon had been stolen as well, but to him, that was no big loss. They might have been his companions, but he knew they were strong enough to fight back if they weren't somewhere they didn't want to be. Instead, he fixed up his apartment and went on with his life.
- When Gabriel turned twenty, he gathered up what money he had made, along with whatever other resources he could, and purchased a small publishing printer and all the associated materials so that he could begin to print his own newspaper. It's a small business, aye, with few returns and barely turning enough money to keep himself afloat, never mind purchase anything overly luxurious for himself, but it's his own newspaper, he gets to control what he prints, and he is the one who suffers directly for what he writes and does not write, so it is a sacrifice he is willing to make.
- Recently, Gabriel was rummaging through some paperwork when he discovered a single Pokeball. Apparently the thief had missed one of his Pokemon all those years ago. He hasn't yet had the opportunity to release the Pokemon and figure out which one remained with him, his newspaper consuming all of his time, but he does plan on going out into the wild and figuring out which one it is as soon as some free time opens up.
