LET THE WHOLE THING BLOW
B A S I C I N F O
★ NAME: Aryl Seiren
★ NICKNAME: N/A
★ MEMBER GROUP: Gijinka
★ POKEMON: Swanna
★ STATUS: Legal
★ AGE: 19
★ HEIGHT: 5'11"
★ WEIGHT: 187 lbs
★ FACE CLAIM: Eyes Rutherford from Spiral
★ APPEARANCE:
Aryl Seiren isn't really a character easily forgotten by those he meets. He has a rather slender body type, like a climber, and if someone examined him without a shirt, they would find that the limbs, slightly scrawny and willowy in appearance, are actually quite firm to the touch, the result of tightly corded muscles that, when put to the test, can support quite a deal of weight. His ribs are not immediately apparent to the naked eye, but a stray flutter of fingers will reveal their presence beneath the cover of taut skin. Tapered fingers end in blunt nails kept meticulously trim and free of points that could tear or scratch. His silky silver-white hair tumbles down to brush against the bottom of his shoulder blades, though a curtain of hair serves as bangs to shelter a pair of sharp sapphire eyes sharp enough to skewer someone where they stand.
Aryl's choice in clothing is no less particular. A pair of black Converse sneakers are sometimes donned on a whim, but the majority of the time sees a pair of sturdy black leather steel-toed combat boots on those feet. Black leather pants closely hug supple legs, fastened closed with a handsome silver chain belt from which Pokeballs are clipped and left to dangle, jingling softly with every step he takes unless it is removed. He likes to wear a black vinyl vest held closed with a trio of buckles over a zipper, and just underneath his wrists is a pair of black armbands, rather fuzzy to the touch since he doesn't particularly like the feel of leather or rough fabric on the insides of his wrists. Sometimes he'll put on a pair of sunglasses when he's outside, wanting to put another layer of distance between himself and the outside world. A long black coat is a constant companion whenever he goes out of his little rotting house in the Canopy, a way to lend himself a little of the warmth he loses from the sleeveless shirt and from a slight problem with poor circulation in his fingers and toes. When home alone, he also will pin his hair back with a handful of bobby pins and don a pair of reading glasses while working, though he jealously guards this as a secret, viewing it as feminine and a potential vulnerability.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
★ POSITIVE:
- Intuitive;; With a sharp mind at his disposal, Aryl is quite good at thinking on his feet and coming up with new ways to do things, a useful asset to have in the slums of Aether.
- Perfectionist;; Aryl is extremely proficient at work where the devil is in the details, willing to expend the time and effort to make sure that everything is in order before he calls it finished.
- Faithful;; If there's one thing Aryl can't stand, it's betrayal, and as a result, he prides himself on never stabbing an acquaintance in the back or going against his word, no matter what the situation might be.
- Self-sacrificing;; Make no mistake, Aryl's not the type to throw his life away for someone he barely knows, but if it's for the sake of someone he holds dear, he will put his own well-being aside for their health and happiness.
- Distant;; To most people, being stand-offish would be bad, but for Aryl, it's a life-saving trait that keeps him with a cool head for working yet allows him to be close to his friends and those that he considers worth enough to show himself to.
- Trust-worthy;; Sure, he might not be the first person you'd think to tell a secret to, but if there's one thing Aryl knows how to keep, it's a secret, and he'll guard any given to him with his very life if that's what it takes to keep it safe.
★ NEGATIVE:
- Blunt;; Unfortunately for the rest of the world, Aryl speaks his mind, and he's not the type to mince words just to spare someone's feelings, of the sentiment that they'd appreciate brutal honesty more than worthless lies.
- Prideful;; Despite the fact that he may not have quite the ego to be called arrogant, Aryl does have quite a bit of pride to him, and the Swanna Gijinka would rather take a bullet to the shoulder than admit he was wrong about something.
- Stubborn;; Once Aryl has set his mind on something, it is nigh impossible to alter it, the Swanna Gijinka clinging to his ways like a Snubbull would, and once he's made up his mind, it's extremely rare for him to ever change it.
- Vain;; A trait enhanced at least in part by the infusion of Swanna DNA into his system, Aryl always insists on always looking his best, and this usually involves long showers and a considerable amount of his time fussing over his personal appearance.
- Over-protective;; Surprisingly for the taciturn Swanna Gijinka, Aryl can be quite the mother hen when he wants to be, fussing over loved ones to make sure they're okay and disregarding any ideas of needing space all the while.
- Possessive;; If Aryl has laid down a claim to something, whether person, Pokemon, place, or object, he doesn't take well to someone trying to take it away and can turn quite violent at any attempts to do so.
- Unsympathetic;; He doesn't care if you're hurt, female, young, human, or whatever else - Aryl will fight you if push comes to shove in order to protect himself and those he loves, having no time for pity, and the only thing to possibly give him pause would be his personal feelings for his opponent and the situation at hand.
★ HABITS, QUIRKS:
- For all the complaining he might voice afterward, Aryl has a weakness for rainstorms, and it's not uncommon for him to step out in one and get himself soaked, standing outside for long periods of time and drowning himself in the rain.
- Aryl has a certain soft spot for starter Pokemon, so while he will take care of other species for a while, he always ends up relying on the starters for the heart of his team, training them so that he can one day escape the slums with them.
- A habit that has only gotten worse after the transfusion, Aryl likes taking long showers and baths, finding the water relaxing, and often he has to be reminded to leave said bath/shower by one of his Pokemon so that he's not late for something or other.
- Aryl tends to pick at his food, and it's rare for him to straight-up dig into a dish even if he happens to like it just because that's how he eats, so if he cleans his plate completely, he adored the food no matter what claims he might make to the contrary.
★ OVERALL PERSONALITY:
In some ways, Aryl is a cold-hearted bastard that few would think it a good idea to cross. He's hardy and determined, ready to do whatever it takes to survive, and he's not the type to let doubts hold him back from any goals he might have. Once set in his ways, he's harder to dislodge than a Shellder from a Slowpoke's tail, and any attempts to change his mind are often greeted with a hostile glare and outpouring of force. He has no sympathy for people who are weaker than himself, his life in the slums having numbed him to the novelty of feeling pity for anyone save those he loves, and he'd tell someone the truth no matter how much it might hurt all because he feels that if you're not strong enough to handle the truth, than you should never have asked in the first place. Outsiders are treated coldly and indifferently, the Swanna Gijinka unwilling to let slip a single secret that could possibly be detrimental to his loved ones, and the hard pace set for himself is the same he expects others to uphold.
In his private life, a rather different Aryl emerges. He may not find a particular joy in playing with numbers and handling extensive reports, but his education prior to running away leaves him with the knowledge to do them, and if tasked with such things, he will ensure they are returned in perfect order - sometimes, if he's planning on a quiet night at home, he'll take the books home to run through them on his own time searching for discrepancies. The thought of stealing from someone runs contrary to the grain, and his loyalty is fierce enough to keep him from ever taking a knife, metaphorical or literal, to someone's back. He may be a tad possessive over his things, but he will give up his own life to make sure a loved one is not left wanting for something. He holds a special love in his heart for water, and even though he will stand in the shower just enjoying the warm water, rain has a far different connotation, and as such, the Swanna Gijinka often stands out in the cold downpour until he's brought in from his "thinking". Although he can hold a grudge for quite a long time, when pacified, he tends to leave subtle tokens of an apology his pride won't allow him to voice. But this is a side he allows few to see, mistaking it for weakness and refusing to expose a vulnerability that can possibly be used against him.
So let the Swanna Gijinka preen and flap his wings and puff his chest at you. Aryl's a lot more bark than he is bite - the care and dedication he shows to his Pokemon, his twin sister Lyra, and his friends are all a testament for that.

H I S T O R Y
- Aryl was born the eldest of twins in a small lower upper-class family. Almost from day one, he was brought up to protect his younger sister Lyra, and on that score, he succeeded admirably, not thinking twice about punching kids who would push his smaller twin into her sand castles. His parents, however, constantly lived with resentment for their richer friends, and it wasn't surprising that they began to put pressure on their children to do well even at a young age, placing the two siblings in a private preschool as soon as they were old enough to be enrolled.
- Preschool was an enjoyable experience for young Lyra, who enjoyed playing with the other kids and was often the recipient of praise from their teachers. Not so much so for Aryl, the young boy spending his time in and out of trouble because, rather than reporting bullies to the teachers, he took matters into his own hands, beating up kids to teach them to stay away from his sister. No amount of scolding seemed to make an impact on the young boy, so at a loss, his parents instead decided to try giving him a distraction, purchasing him a baby Torchic for his fifth birthday.
- Some could make the argument that Blaze did exactly what Aryl's parents had bought him for. The Torchic kept his young Trainer from picking as many fights when he graduated to the private elementary school with his sister at the end of the year, and it was far more rare for Lyra to come home with tales of how her big brother had beaten someone up again. Instead, like many of the other kids at the school, he resorted to Pokemon battles to solve his problems, and he and Blaze consequently spent more time in detention for battling on school grounds. That didn't deter the child, however, and when he announced that he wanted to be a Pokemon Master when he grew up, his parents just looked at each other and let him take in a young Squirtle as well. They assumed he would grow out of it.
- Aryl's tenth birthday rolled around, and by this point, he'd obtained a third member for his team, a young Cyndaquil he'd named Explosion. Despite subtle discouragements from his parents on becoming a Pokemon Trainer, he'd been involving himself in the tournaments the school would hold. He never placed, but the simple fact he was participating in and of itself was enough to spur him and his Pokemon to keep training, and when his sister expressed an interest in wanting to follow in his footsteps, he found himself presenting the girl with a Pokemon of her very own for her eleventh birthday, unaware of the exact consequences that his action would bring upon the two of them.
- The Seirens had been indulgent when their son expressed a preference for Pokemon over a more respectable and lucrative occupation such as accounting. They had managed to accept the perplexing situation of their son deliberately failing tests for placement into more advanced classes that he was by all means intelligent enough to be in. But they refused to allow their perfect daughter to follow in the footsteps of her troublesome brother and decided to finally put their foot down. They came down hard on the two, refusing to allow them any more Pokemon and confining the ones the pair already had to the house, but if they thought that would be the end of it, they were wrong. Aryl fought against the decree tooth and nail, often getting himself grounded as he went through the next several years.
- When he was thirteen, Aryl met his best friend. A few years older than he was, it was this friend that guided him through the next four years of school and helped him when the confrontations with his parents ended with him sleeping at the other's house. Some of those fights were intentionally provoked so that Lyra wouldn't get in trouble for something, but tensions were strained all around. Even when his twin sister caught the virus at the age of sixteen, the relationship between son and parents did not improve. If anything, it only worsened as Aryl refused to leave Lyra's beside save to ensure that their Pokemon were by her side to comfort her while she was sick, and he ended up resenting them for sneaking her off to be cured without taking him along with her even though he'd been the one nursing her on her sickbed and not them.
- Aryl had taken care of her so often while she was sick, so it was unsurprising that he ended up catching the virus as well. He tried to make the best of it for his sister, gently humoring her when she would visit with tears in her eyes and putting on a fake smile and tell her that he'd fight off the virus. Lyra was devastated at the thought of possibly losing her brother, and so she went to her parents and begged them to save him for a present for her seventeenth birthday. Reluctantly, they agreed to pay for the transfusion, and Aryl was saved, given the transfusion to put Swanna DNA into his body and change his life.
- When Aryl was returned home after the transfusion, it was an awkward atmosphere. He still wasn't fond of his parents, and they had given up on him, instead putting pressure on his sister to do well. He found that he couldn't take living with them a single moment longer, and so with a kiss to his sister's cheek, he left, instead moving to the slums of the city. It was hard to keep his head above water sometimes, but he managed to find odd jobs he could do for a bit of money or food, keeping his chin up and his will strong to keep fighting on his own.
- At the age of eighteen, Aryl was down on his luck and about to possibly slip into the abyss. He was out of money and about to be evicted from the rotting house he occupied in the Canopy when he ran across an advertisement for a job at a hotel. Having no other options, he went to apply, expecting that he would be forced to demean himself but knowing that he needed the money. To his surprise, however, he was treated rather well by the owner, and as time went on, he found that he had no inclination to leave. He still lived in the Canopy and he kept away from Lyra so that she could have the chance to live a decent life, but for the first time in a very long time, he was content with what he was doing. He had a steady job with a good boss, a stable home even if it wasn't the most sturdy, and his Pokemon. What more could he possibly need?
