LET THE WHOLE THING BLOW
B A S I C I N F O
★ NAME: Conrad (no surname)
★ NICKNAME: Sometimes people call him Konrad (stronger ‘K’ sound), and he doesn’t know why. He thinks this is just them mispronouncing his name.
★ MEMBER GROUP: Human
★ POKEMON: Mareep
★ AGE: 26 years old
★ HEIGHT: 5’10”
★ WEIGHT: 165lbs
★ FACE CLAIM: Russia from Axis Powers Hetalia
★ APPEARANCE:
Conrad’s hair can be described as a multitude of colours depending on the light, but it is generally thought of as a very light grey or blond, to the point of almost being white. His eyes are equally as unusual; a strange shade of light violet. He stands at a very average 5’10” and looks a little heavier set, weighing in at 162lbs. Most people would be torn between thinking he’s a bit chubby or just heavily built, and his tendency to wear clothing that covers every inch of him doesn’t help much. In truth, it’s the latter. Having worked all his life, Conrad had gained muscle built from work and not from working out. It makes him look somewhat bigger than he actually is.
Conrad has a whole lot of scars, but he doesn’t know how he got them, when or why. Though the marks are scattered all over his body, they’re particularly concentrated around his neck. Fresh wounds are not uncommon on him, though in recent years they’ve grown fewer and farther between, much to everybody’s relief. He tends to wear clothes that cover up as much of his body as possible. It’s a rare thing to see him in shorts or t-shirts, but not uncommon to see him in fully uniformed military attire (thanks to his family) or wearing long trench coats and sweaters.
The one thing you will never see him without is his scarf. Conrad will wear his scarf even if he’s taking a hike through a volcano. It’s mainly to hide his neck, as he has a whole lot of scars around there that he simply doesn’t want people to see. He often wears a lot of clothes too; long jackets, turtle neck sweaters, long sleeved shirts, etc… Anything that hides as much skin as possible is good for him, even if it’s really hot out. The man is extremely self conscious about all the marks and scars on his body, and mentioning them is the quickest way to get him to shut up.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
★ POSITIVE:
- Dependable >> If you need something fixed and fixed so it doesn’t break within the next few hours, Conrad’s the one to call. Anything he promises he’ll do, he’ll get done. He holds a very high sense of responsibility about himself, and he becomes extremely frustrated when it seems that he can’t get things done when they’re supposed to, even if he gave it his all.
- Affectionate >> It seems out of place on a guy like him, and he blames it mostly on his cousin. Despite not liking to communicate verbally, he has no problem with physical communication such as pats on the back, shaking hands, hugs, etc…
- Disciplined >> Thanks to his upbringing in a very strict military family, he’s learned a plethora of very ‘good’ habits and manners. He always keeps on time, is polite when the occasion arises, never speaks out of turn, etc… However, a few of these habits seem to be wearing away in recent years, since his parental figures moved away and his big brother disappeared.
- Knowledgeable / Innovative >> If there’s one thing Conrad can do perfectly, it’s fix things. A jack-of-all-trades and handyman by profession, he is capable of doing most jobs around a house that many do not know how to, such as wiring electricity, fixing floorboards and boilers, etc…
- Quick Learner >> The man can learn how to fix things rather quickly, but learns much quicker by breaking it and putting it back together. Conrad’s memory is excellent as well, so he’s since learned how to deconstruct things he’s seen the inner workings of in his mind and figure out how to fix it.
- Independent >> Conrad’s alright to lean on, but don’t expect him to ever lean on anybody else. He will never ask anything of anybody if he can’t pay for it in some way, and when cast out on his own, he’d rather endure years of hardship before he accepts help.
- Adaptable >> If a situation changes, than so will he. Conrad never allows himself to fall into familiarity, because when things go down, he knows he won’t be attached to things and can therefore change himself to survive.
★ NEGATIVE:
- Obstinate >> If it were a battle of wills between a rock and him, Conrad would probably win. Once he sets his mind to something, he will stick by it no matter how many people oppose him. That may have been alright years ago, but in this day and age, it may just get him killed.
- Secretive >> Conrad’s not much of a talker, and unless you start a conversation, he’s very unlikely to speak at all. He answers questions in as few words as possible, and keeps any detail that’s not extremely necessary or directly asked for out. If questioned on his history or any of his scars, he’ll likely to shut up altogether.
- Lonely >> He hates people. Period. To him, ‘people’ are humans and Gijinka alike, and he tends to avoid both whenever possible. Though he’s not quite sure of why, he never really tried to figure out. His bitter attitude towards others, as well as his quiet nature, tends to keep people away.
- Discourteous / Blunt >> This is the one area where his discipline seems to have worn to nothing. If Conrad dislikes you, he will tell you so in a way that would probably make you cry. He seems to be the furthest thing from a gentleman one can find, and he doesn’t look like he regrets it.
- Detached >> Thanks to various traumas and negative events in his life, Conrad’s conditioned himself to adapt, but at the same time, this causes him to be very detached from people and places. He holds nothing personally, has little consideration for ‘sentimental value’ and he’ll rapidly change to adapt to various environments.
- Low Self Worth >> Conrad definitely doesn’t think the best of himself. He’s got a host of physical and mental issues that make it somewhat worse, so he keeps to himself. When an argument turns to the other person pointing out his own flaws, he doesn’t often argue back because he tends to believe it’s true. He’ll never freely admit to it though.
- Multiple Identity Disorder >> Conrad, in recent years, has become the dominant personality out of two. Before his brother left, his main personality was Konrad, someone who he doesn’t remember at all. This split was caused by trauma in his childhood. It isn’t as obvious now as it used to be, though he does still switch personalities on a semi-regular basis.
- Paranoid Schizophrenia >> Though technically belonging to his secondary personality, Konrad, it’s still prominent enough to be worth a mention. He will have seemingly random episodes or fits where he screams at walls, mauls himself with various items and attacks anything within his vicinity.
★ HABITS, QUIRKS:
- Conrad is blind in his left eye. During one of his fits, he tried to stab his eyes out with a spoon and though he was stopped before he could do damage to both sides, his left was unable to be repaired. He needs to turn his head to see things on his left.
- He smokes like a chimney. Since Konrad began to fade back, he’d been in need of finding another way to cope with his stresses and pressure, so he started smoking.
- Always wears his scarf (sleeping, showering, eating, etc…) because of his scars, and the fact that he wants to bury them the best he can.
- Conrad almost always keeps a tool belt with him for practical purposes. It’s for his job, and he finds that keeping various tools on you will come in handy when you’re stuck in a tight spot.
- He talks so little, some may think he’s a mute. However, when he’s completely alone, he tends to talk to himself, sometimes in third person, and what he says isn’t always understandable.
★ OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Conrad is a bitter, cynical sort of guy. There aren’t a whole lot of things that he likes, though the list of things he dislikes is as long as your arm and very, very depressing. As a general rule, he doesn’t socialize. Period. He prefers to keep to himself greatly, and when it’s absolutely required that he goes out, he’ll keep his head down and his mouth shut. Talking to him will yield a person very limited results; he’ll answer in the shortest forms and sentences possible, or maybe he might just answer with a gesture and no words at all. This leads some people to think of him as a mute, though he can actually speak fine and chatters to himself when he’s alone.
But just because he’s quiet, doesn’t mean he’s a shy, embarrassed man just waiting for someone to come along and get him to open up. In fact, once you do get him talking, you find that he’s the complete opposite if he finds you to his disliking. He’s rude and often considered a jerk by many; he’s stubborn in his arguments and is unwilling to give in no matter what you throw at him. Even if he does favour a person, his behavior is often considered impersonal and impolite. Despite being mostly unwilling to talk, he seems more than glad to start a verbal dispute.
Conrad is very knowledgeable on the subject of fixing things, especially when it comes to electronics and technology. The long periods of time that he spends at home is often spent reading up on new ways to repair things, or he’s breaking things himself just to figure out how they work and fix them. He’s a jack-of-all-trades and a handyman by profession, and he seems to be fairly successful with this.
It may seem strange to some, but Conrad refuses to keep a proper schedule and routine. He’s always changing things here and there, walking a different way to a client’s office, et cetera. Due to past experiences, Conrad’s learned to distrust ‘familiar’ routines and things done regularly. He puts survival above a lot of things, and he’s aware that there’s always a chance of things changing. To survive that change, he himself must change with it. Because of this mindset, his relationships with others are often very impersonal as well. Conrad is extremely reluctant to tell people anything about himself aside from his name, and in some cases, that may be all you ever find out about him for many years.
Despite how put off he seems by… just about everything, he really is a helpful guy. He has a multitude of skills that can come in handy when one is in a tight spot, and he won’t hesitate too much to help out for nothing in return. He tends to be nicer towards those who are also quiet, and all he asks of anybody is that they don’t disturb his peace. He’s very rough around the edges in most situations, but when things are quiet and calm, he won’t mind settling down next to somebody and just reading a book. Conrad is oddly affectionate, but he blames it on the cuddle piles his cousin used to drag him into.

H I S T O R Y
Conrad has never known a biological family; what little he knows of his very early years was that he was an orphan of war, dropped off unceremoniously at the doorstep of a failing orphanage without a single paper to his name. He was less than a year old at that time, and the responsibility for him was handed off to a boy named Magnus von Blitzkrieg because he was the one that had found him. Not knowing what his name was, his ‘big brother’ eventually named him Konrad because he got tired of calling him ‘the new baby’.
The first three years of his life was basically a misery. In the eyes of the staff and the other kids at the orphanage, he was nothing but an extra mouth to feed and a burden. Magnus definitely didn’t like how he was dumped on him and gave him minimum care and attention for the longest time. Konrad was often left to cry for attention that he never got until Magnus started becoming attached to him a good three or so years after he arrived. After that, it’s debatable whether things got worse or got better.
Magnus began to protect him with ferocity, taking him in as his younger brother. The other children at the orphanage bullied him for being small and for being what amount to a meek crybaby, always hiding behind his big brother. One of these boys took it too far one day and broke his nose while shoving him around. He doesn’t remember what this boy looked like, what his name was or anything else about him. Now, he just refers to this boy as “First”. Once his big brother found out what happened, it was just a few days before First ‘tripped’ down the stairs and broke his neck. Nothing was spoken of him again.
Kids are cruel, especially when food was rationed and the world was in turmoil. They definitely didn’t learn from First’s mistakes, and soon there was another boy who was tormenting Konrad day in and day out. The staff at the orphanage did very little about it, and he was repeatedly pushed around, had his hair torn at and beaten up. It wasn’t long before Magnus found out again, only this time, things went a little differently. He watched in ignorance at first, then in growing horror as his big brother strangled the kid to death in his bedroom and tossed him out as if he were trash. This one was dubbed “Second”.
The third incident, accurately called “Third” in his memory, was the straw that broke the camel’s back, was when Magnus beat a third child to death with a gardening tool for bullying his little brother. He did this right in front of Konrad, tying the victim down to a chair and just going to town on him with a blunt tool he found lying around until he was very much dead and very much in pieces. By this time, Konrad was getting old enough to begin understanding what exactly his brother was doing and needless to say, it did a number to his mental state.
After that, poor little Konrad began having nightmares. He was mostly unable to sleep unless it was in the same bed with Magnus, and he began to have strange fits. He started screaming at walls and muttering to himself in some foreign tongue. Worst of all was that he began to mutilate himself whenever he was left unsupervised. At first these were very minor things, such as little scratches and scrapes. After a bit of time, they began getting worse and worse. He began to cut himself all over with knives, claw at his neck and face and try to hack off fingers. The incidents built, got worse and worse and the injuries heavier and heavier until one day, things sort of just broke down.
Magnus had begun leaving the orphanage a lot more, leaving him mostly alone. According to him, he was trying to find a way out. The sudden loneliness, as well as all the other kids ostracizing him and the staff completely ignoring him, caused him to crack. He began to identify shadowy figures that hunted him, and a strange man who commanded said shadows like a pack of dogs. This strange man was dubbed ‘Conrad’, and he followed him and tortured him wherever he went.
One day, Magnus told him to pack what little he had up in the middle of the night. He’d found somewhere for them to go, and so they left the failing orphanage behind to go to a safe place. This safe place was under the wing of a military squad; Pasha, Nastasya and Yekaterina. They essentially took them in, sheltered them, fed them and cared for them as a family unit would have at the time. Konrad absolutely thrived under the new, more loving environment, and though his mental state was still in shambles, it got a little better now that he wasn’t hated by just about everybody. This lasted a couple of months and went very well, though he was kept ignorant of the real reason why they were there, there was an explosion in the building meant to kill all three of the squad. Nastasya and Yekaterina were dead, but Pasha managed to barely survive the ordeal.
After the initial chaos of the ordeal subsided, and after Pasha had healed a decent amount, they were sent back home and reestablished their home in a small, quiet neighbourhood. They lived next to who they were to consider an aunt and a cousin in one of the lower-middle class areas of the city. Having been raised to do so, Konrad quickly adapted again and loved his aunt and cousin, who seemed to love him right back in equal amounts. Pasha, however, always seemed to favour Magnus, as he was the ‘perfect’ child.
Misery seemed to follow Konrad wherever he went, and the virus broke out soon after. The world was plunged once more into chaos as no cure could be found, and the condition of the Mikhaylichenko-Molotov family seemed to deteriorate further. Being a military family seemed to save them though, and they were kept alive well enough by Pasha’s new active duty. He lived with his Aunt Anya’s house most of the time while Pasha was away, along with Magnus and Johan, and though life was pretty bad, it was stable for the time being.
Magnus, his big brother, his protector and the one he was almost entirely dependant on, left when he was 17 years old. From a psychological point of view, it should’ve been a good thing. Magnus had been the source of his stress and therefore, his fits from a very early age. He had killed people in front of him and traumatized him to no end all while caring for him as if he were the most important thing in the world, and yet, things always get worse before they get better. With the family thrown for a new loop, left confused and not knowing why Magnus had suddenly disappeared, Konrad seemed to become worse.
His previous fits came back and there was one particular incident where he tried to scoop his own eyes out with a spoon, causing him to become blind in his left eye. Basically, things got a whole lot worse and, afraid of upsetting him, Anya and Pasha allowed him to stay with Johan when they moved away. But things would get worse… and then they’d get better.
Over the past few years, it’s become more obvious that he’d been getting better. Konrad, who was extremely childish and perpetually bubbly, began to fade away to Conrad. Conrad was much more mature, intelligent and basically what he should have been if he’d grown up ‘normally’. The personalities still occasionally switch, and Conrad is still prone to fits, though it’s become fewer and farther between.
He’s since gotten better enough to get a job and begin to at least try and have a normal life, though his quietness and tendency to keep to himself inhibits a lot of this. Occasionally he does make the effort to meet people (though mostly through Johan nagging him to) by escorting Johan to his photography galas. It’s been about eight years since Magnus left, and he still misses his big brother.
