★ APPEARANCE:
Calico is nothing if not striking. Despite the fact that her clothes are plain (usefulness before attractiveness) her height, androgynous appearance, and flashy hair can give her identity away in a moment. Her mohawk stands seemingly upon its own will, only slicking to one side if she's been doused. It's a vibrant bubblegum pink in color, a shade that often lends to odd looks and some mistaking her for gijinka blood. Her face is long but rounded, with thick eyebrows that hunch over black irises. Androgyny is her strong suit and from her facial features to her voice and the way she saunters it's nearly impossible to tell her true gender. And Calico likes it this way. There's something about pulling the wool over the eyes of everyone she passes that intoxicates her so much she even hesitates to answer when confronted directly. Truly enough, if addressed as "he" she'll simply go along with the pronoun without any indication the speaker is wrong. Calico is tall and built on an average frame, neither too bulky nor very skinny. Her clothes, as mentioned, are more for function than looks. Loose blue jeans are topped by a threadbare teal shirt, often covered by her fur-trimmed aviator's jacket. Black boots and a black messenger bag complete her ensemble.

★ OVERALL PERSONALITY:
If Calico could be summed up in a single word it would be cool. No, not simply cool, but cold. Often a hard exterior masks a sensitive center, but for this girl the only thing hiding behind her scowl is yet another scowl. The only thing that seems to put her in a good mood is winning; whether this applies to Pokemon battles, cards, or simply hustling some sucker out of a few dollars only depends on the time of day. She's selfish and more than a little independent. It's this selfishness that led her to Team Rocket, and her poker face keeps her there. She's in avid dislike of gijinkas, though you'd never know it by looking at her. To the outside she's apathetic, uncaring of what blood the next person has. But deep beyond those pinched eyebrows she's horridly jealous of the power that gijinkas command. Jealous and more than a little afraid. Despite this and the rampant availability of transfusions on the black markets, Calico finds herself lacking the gall to do it. To take that risk, go so far as to put her life in some stranger's hands? It's simply not in her. And so she scowls from a distance, mindfully aware of what they're capable of.
Despite this, she's not all bad. A will to succeed and an ambition to match make her a fair trainer, though sometimes she pushes her Pokemon too hard. She's confident in her own training abilities, and her ability to take care of herself, however threatening gijinkas may appear. Though she may not show it in affection or true kindness, she holds a respect and love for her Pokemon. She may be their trainer, but they're the ones that put their bodies -- and sometimes lives -- on the line on her behalf. Though Calico has no lack of confidence that she could take just about anyone in a brawl.

H I S T O R Y
- While growing up in the slums might sound like a rotten deal for a kid, it taught Calico more than a few things about street smarts. She grew up with the other street urchins, picking and scavenging what she could to bring back to her family -- which often wasn't much. Despite the less-than-stellar financial situation of herself, parents, and much older brother, begging never seemed to be an option for her. Her mother, rotted away by unspeakable drug use and starvation, would often instruct her to head to the richer areas and beg for money. Calico would always silently comply with a half-hearted shrug before secretly slipping down into the Jungle.
- She was never close to her family. This became so true in later years she found herself struggling to remember her brother's name. The fact that her parents even had names other than "mom" and "pop" didn't occur to her until her mother, in a craze, threw herself off of one of the bridges that laced the Canopy. There was no funeral; it was unnecessary and expensive. Her father, though more like her than either would like to admit, became colder and more sullen as the days wore on. He continued his trading in the black markets but was more and more unwilling to share with his offspring. Calico's brother left soon after, convinced that their mother's demise was due to the disease and fearing for his own life.
- By the time she was seventeen, Calico was fending completely for herself. The only reason to march back through the door of her father's rickety shack was for the cot in the corner. Then one day, with no warning and little remorse, he stopped her at the door. No words were shared. He simply stood in the doorway, a massive, immovable frame that blocked the inside of the shack from site completely. In a huff and exhausted, Calico tried to pry her way by him, only to be met with the wall of muscle that was her father. For all her huffing and puffing she couldn't force him to move, and she might have been more successful trying to tear the house to the ground. After screaming her throat raw she turned on her heel and stomped across the swaying bridge. She didn't look back, and swore she never would.
- It was on one of her many scavenging and black market exploits through the Jungle that she discovered what would become her Tepig. The newly-hatched Pokemon had wandered too deeply into the crime-infested streets, a miraculous occurrence. Though Calico could easily see the value of the little pig (whether in black market trading or food) its emaciated and terrified form made her second guess. Doubtful it'd cash in for anything worth it, and on top of that if it belonged to someone she'd have more trouble than she was currently in the mood for. So Calico passed by its huddled frame. And passed by again, and again. The Tepig never moved from its shadowy corner, and it seemed everyone else had made the same deduction as her. As she headed back up to the canopy, a sudden act of compassion -- rare for someone who needed every scrap of food she could scrounge up -- caught Calico tossing the starved Pokemon a hunk of moldy bread. From that day he followed her everywhere, and despite the fact that she now had two mouths to feed, Calico couldn't quite give him up.
- Years of life on the streets began to take their toll. She began to look for an out, and the surfacing Team Rocket provided just that. A quick job without any extracurricular skills needed, decent pay, and the chance to have a go at some rotten gijinkas.

★ RP SAMPLE:
silence is all that can be justified. absolute silence, so stunning and perfect as to take one's breath away. not a bird lingers in the dawn hours, not a gust of heavenly wind rustles the long stems of grass. silence. and stillness. an ethereal hush sits over the serene fields, though it is marred by an unmistakable tenseness in the air. it's as if the world is holding its breath. waiting. waiting.
yet nothing happens. the fading stars above show no movement as the sun drags its way above the horizon and chases away their light. those who have witnessed the alpha meeting before would expect a showering of stardust or an unearthly cacophony to signal the leaders of the packs to gather and discuss their politics. but there is nothing.
here, too, the gods are silent.
still there is the need, the ever driving commitment to convene in this sacred place. and perhaps this feeling, which wells in the breast of every current alpha, is the mark of the gods. or perhaps it is simply a tradition so ingrained that even those who are but strangers to these lands can feel it. they will come. they will come to represent their packs, their allies, and their families.
they will come.
