Ryan waited somewhat patiently for Seira to make her choice, the Staraptor Gjinka increasingly trying to push down the panic that she wouldn't like the games here and think him foolish for taking her to a carnival for couples when he didn't even know her well enough for such an offer to have been remotely appropriate. He could hear the sounds of the shooting game to the left of them, and he occupied himself with scanning the prizes, trying to figure out which one Seira would like best, very much confident in the fact that he would be able to win one without expending a whole lot of effort. After all, he was used to his revolver, and those things were very temperamental, and he'd always said that if someone could shoot one of them and nail the side of a tree, they could handle just about any weapon that was thrown their way. When he heard her exclaim that she wanted to go find out where the music was coming from, he nodded agreeably. "All right, we can go see who's singin' an' where, but I'm not all that great at dancin'. Got two left feet." He may have given her an easy smile and started walking with her in the direction that the music was coming from, but in his head, he was mentally flailing, hoping that it wasn't a karaoke contest or something. He might have been bad at dancing, but he was even worse at singing - which made sense in a way, Starapators were not known for their singing voices but rather for their ruthless instincts. Hopefully he would get lucky and it would just be dancing. Hopefully. Though knowing his luck, it would be karaoke, and if Seira turned those big green eyes on him, he would give in without a second thought, singing voice or no. He just couldn’t turn her down.

Sorry, Ryan, but you're out of luck~ You shall sing for me! Err... I mean Seira. Yes, Seira.
Seira led the way, her excitement soaring high as they drew closer to the source of the pleasant music. She gave Brant an understanding smile when he told her he couldn’t dance. “If it makes you feel any better, I don’t know how to dance.” As they got closer the music changed again, and with it the two voices. She had to hold back a grimace from the screech of the tuneless pitch of one singer – female by the sound of it – which definitely concreted the fact that what they were going to wasn’t just a dancing square, which she was grateful for; she never learned how to dance. Seira turned to her ‘date’ with her eyes sparkling and her hold on Alene much more tighter since the newborn wanted to get away from the horrid sound of the off-key singer just ahead of them. In front of them stood a stage decorated in traditional Valentine’s Day colors, on it were the contestants of the karaoke contest that was advertised by a large poster. Other contestants stood at the rim dancing or listening to the singing, with the judges seated right in front with their score sheets ready. Like anything in the fair, the contest was for couples only. “Brant, can we sign up, please?” she asked, her whole being begging to do this. She didn’t know how long the contest would last – they were too far from the poster to see the finer print – so it could end any minute now. Seira didn’t want to think that the couple on stage was the last; she really wanted to sing with Brant. The couple on stage took a bow as they finished, the audience applauding politely as they left the stage. Seira gave Brant her best pleading eyes as they did, Alene giving a peep that sounded very close to a sigh when the woman stopped singing and left the stage with her date. The chick couldn’t help but turn her own gaze to the tall man with the funny hat-thing, she knew her mama could sing better than that.

Words;; 381 Tags;; Seira Blake Eggs;; - - 8/10 - - 7/10 - - 7/10 Layout by Kuroya Ryan felt a stirring of relief when he saw Seira's face light up with a smile as she stated that she couldn't dance either, the mere fact that she wasn't going to force him to dance offering him some small measure of comfort. Even to be polite, he couldn't hold back a wince at the sound of the new singers, confirming his other fears that this was a karaoke. He could feel Doug scrambling about on his head, the little Swablu apparently wanting to escape the situation just as much as he did, and with that thought in mind, the Staraptor Gijinka was careful to press a hand to the top of his hat so that the newborn couldn't possibly fly away with it. He withheld a groan at the sight of one of the fliers that advertised the event, making it clear that he was going to be walking right into his worst hell. But yet, when she turned her big emerald eyes up on him, he found his resolve slipping away. He didn't want to make a fool of himself in public, but he didn't want to disappoint her more. Sighing heavily, he nodded, digging around in his pockets for a Pokeball so that he could try to put Doug away. No need to make the little newborn feel any more anxious than necessary just because they were going to be going up on stage and Ryan was going to have to do the one thing that he sucked at more than almost anything else in the world just to please a girl that he liked but was forbidding himself to date. ... Was it too late for him to back out now? He knew that agreeing likely made Seira a happier girl because she’d be able to sing, and he had told her that he would let her pick whatever game she wanted, but still he was not wanting to get up on stage and sing. He was a Staraptor Gijinka, not a Chatot, so for him to have to be able to sing just made him want to disclaim what he had said so that he could cut his losses and not have to make an absolute fool of himself. Well… he’d lived a good life, right?

Ryan you act like she's leading you to the slaughter house. Just speak more than sing and keep your voice low. =P
Seira‘s eyes widened in excitement when she saw Brant give a nod, a strained smile on his lips and a nervous light in his visible eye as his free hand rested on his hat – to keep his nervous newborn from flying away in fright no doubt. The young girl thought he was nervous about being on stage, it was a large crowd and he most likely had never sung to a wide audience before. She gave his hand one last squeeze as they moved through the crowd to sign up – Butterfrees fluttering in her belly as Seira’s shyness tried to take over – to reassure Brant she was there before releasing it to sneak Alene into her Pokeball again. This time she succeed in placing her newborn into her ball, the chick peeping curious sounds at the other Sweblu under Brant’s hat. Both hands free Seira reclaimed the elder man’s hand and worked her way to the sign-up sheet. From the times given the karaoke would last a good long time, and had just finished its second act when they arrived! Smiling in glee, Seira freed her hand again to sign them up, looking over the song list to find a really easy one to sing to. Her voice still gave out when she tried higher notes, so it was simple to eliminate the ones that called for higher vocals and managed to pick one she liked. Setting the pen down, feeling very triumphant, the young girl turned to her date with a smile. “We have some time before it’s our turn, do you want to head back to the games and play some?” Brant still looked on edge; she didn’t like the somewhat steely look in his eye, and thought maybe some games would help the Staraptor ease his nerves.

Ryan was grateful for the squeeze that she left on his hand, intended to be comforting, but in truth, he hardly took any from the gesture. He wasn't much of a singer, he didn't want to participate in karaoke, but he couldn't just back down from his acceptance without looking like a complete fool in front of Seira, and besides, he had asked her what she wanted to do, so it would be rude for him to just back out now and take back his offer. When she let go of his hand so that she could try to put her newborn away into a Pokeball, he reached up to do the same to Doug, but the young chick didn't want to leave his position underneath his Trainer's hat, so he pecked at the Staraptor Gijinka's fingers, causing the Epispect agent to pull his hand back with a small noise - the action was by no means pleasant, but he'd handled far more painful back when he used to be a drag rider or even now as an agent - and the only reason he had pulled back in the first place was in order to regroup. If he didn't get Doug out from under there, the newborn could very well fly off with his hat, but that was assuming that he could wrestle the Swablu into a Pokeball, of course. He couldn't fly, and he'd rather not be running all over the carnival trying to catch a fussy baby. "All right, you can stay under the hat," he muttered before blinking because Seira's hand was back in his, guiding him through the crowd as he kept his other hand on top of his hat to make sure the Swablu didn't fly away with it. He didn't really want to look as Seira signed them up for a song, instead focusing on the wall, so when he heard her voice, he blinked, turning to her in surprise. They weren't going on right away? The dread of performing settled into the pit of his stomach, but it was much more preferable to the pressure of having to go on immediately, so he gave her an easy smile. "Sure. 'Still gotta win 'ya somethin' 'fore we can call it a day," he assured her. After all, he was an expert marksman, so he was bound to excel at these simple carnival games, right?

I was scared that this would be shorter than everything I ever wrote but it isn't so I'm happy. I have faith you'll cheat the system here, Ryan! XD
With the crowds gathering around the sign-up and around the stage, the area was starting to become too noisy and suffocating for the young Altaria to stand and wanted to move out of the swarm as soon as possible. The constant pushing was chipping away at Seira’s nerves, still unused to so many people after years of just being around her family and a too-big house. The young girl moved closer to her date to find some pillar of strength. She blushed when he mentioned his promise to win her a prize at one of the booths, and the idea of cuddling a stuffed toy – won for her by someone who was becoming very dear to her even though they only knew each other for a short while – made her feel at ease and excited to get to the quieter section of the game area so he can fulfill his promise. But the added fact that playing some games could ease the steely glaze in Brant’s eye was what made Seira take the Staraptor’s free hand with both of her own and try to guide them out of the mass of people wanting to participate in the karaoke contest. “Come on, Brant, let’s go,” she said in excitement, casting a somewhat nervous glace at the people that surrounded them from all directions. She gave polite ‘excuse me’s as they moved through the crowd of ever noisy people, doing her best to avoid bumping into as many people as possible so Brant wouldn’t have to let go of his hat and consequently Doug.

Ryan could tell that Seira was starting to get overcrowded, and when he thought about it, it was hardly surprising. She was likely used to being kept in more open environments if she was always sick since it meant she was usually kept inside and away from large crowds of people, and even when he'd met her, it had been in a library that wasn't nearly as crowded as this was. When she moved closer to his side, he lifted his arm slightly to allow her closer, instinctively trying to press her to his side protectively. He then ruffled her hair softly with his hand before he blinked when she took his hand in the both of her own. He chuckled softly, his other still on top of his head to ensure that Doug didn't fly off, and moved so that he was in the lead instead of her since he wasn't as afraid to push past people if it meant that he could protect her and make her feel more comfortable. After all, she didn't like being a part of this crowd, and to be honest, neither did he, but he was far more used to it than she was. He could handle the pressure of it, and so he made sure to sweep the crowd back with his gaze until finally they were free, at which point he smiled easily at her and gestured around him at the game booths. "Well then, what d'ya say t' pickin' out one of them for us to try, hmm?" he asked, giving her an easy smile. It felt so right being with her... he just hoped that she felt the same way about being with him. He wasn’t sure what he would do if she found the idea distasteful… probably end up leaving her alone to find a date her own age, someone that she could relate to and want to be here at this event with. But he shook the idea away; if she didn’t want to come to the carnival with him, she would have said something about it when he’d proposed the idea back in the library. No, he reassured himself, Seira wanted to be here with him. She’d be happy that she came out, and he’d be sure to win her a prize so that she didn’t forget about him or the day they’d spent here. That was a promise.
