Gabriel made a face as he strode through the area, already knowing he was getting dirt and mud and all kinds of other disgusting muck all over his shoes. Still, this was the first lull he'd gotten in the printing process for several months, so he had to take proper advantage of it. He really hoped he could manage to hire some help for his little paper soon, but with the way things were going, it was very likely he'd be working it alone for a good while longer. That was okay though, he supposed. Meant that no one aside from him would be suffering if he went down for printing a story people didn't want to read or getting involved in a suit for libel or plagiarism. Gabriel was a careful man, of course, and knew when to draw the line... but that didn't mean that stones might not be thrown at him. Even if he was found not guilty, it didn't take much to turn people against someone, a phenomenon he'd exploited for his advantage in numerous occasions. The world was a harsh place these days, and it was hard for someone to remain at the top of the heap for long anymore. Particularly if they were human like Gabriel was. But what no one suspected of the chocolate-haired man was a determination to continually move to make his life better for himself and the keen mind he needed to be able to provide it for himself. He hadn't gotten as far as he had in life by playing long odds, after all. And speaking of playing long odds, he supposed it was time to figure out exactly what was in that Pokeball he'd found hidden in the back of a junk drawer of his desk. His hand went down to his pocket, extracting the red and white ball and running his thumb over the smooth surface thoughtfully as he stared at it with a pensive gleam to his honey eyes. He may not have accumulated a lot of Pokemon during his time training to pacify his parents that he wasn't a social recluse, but he had obtained enough that he honestly had no idea what might lurk inside the ball. Or if it would even still obey him after being abandoned for such a long period of time. Still... he supposed he was duty-bound to discover what that was, right? Steeling himself in case the Pokemon turned out to be unfriendly, he tossed the Pokeball into the air, watching as it opened up and released its contents with a bright flash of light. The young Shinx that appeared tossed her head from side to side, her eyes closed as she sleepily protested being awoken from her nap. She had been having a good dream, what could possibly be so important to wake her up? Her yellow eyes cracked open for her to make a complaint when she realized something important. She was outside her Pokeball. She scrambled to her feet, eyes wide. Had she finally atoned for whatever she had done to deserve her exile? Hesitantly, she took a few steps, almost as if she couldn't believe this was all really happening before she let out a delighted cry as she spotted the man standing before her and recognizing him as her Trainer. Scrambling forward, she scampered over to his side to run against his legs affectionately, purring happily. She would try better now that she had been deemed a good girl again, she promised! OOC: ... Wow, I rambled. >.> Team-

Gavin hated being cooped up in the city, which is why he’d come out to the wastelands. He’d already tried exploring the jungle but after nearly running into a few previous gang members he decided to leave that area well enough alone. He would not have another run-in with them because he knew it would end up either with someone dead or with him being drug back to the gang by his tail Neither option was appealing, hence the reason for avoiding it. So he’d explored for a little while, contemplating what to do with the pokeballs in his pocket. He’d gotten them from a kid in the city who hadn’t wanted them. More correctly she didn’t think she’d be able to train them successfully so she’d given them to him for some money. Granted it hadn’t been much money but she’d said she was fine with it so long as he took care of them. He liked pokemon so that wasn’t something he saw as being an issue. He let out a sigh and reached into his pocket, fingering the smooth surface and contemplated letting them out. The kid had warned him that the Totodile was going to be a handful and it was a water-type, which had an advantage over his fire.
Well he couldn’t exactly put it off could he?
Before he could bring the pokemon out though, he heard the sound of another person nearby. He tilted his head as he caught the sound of a pokemon being released from its ball and wondered who had come out here to train. Curious more than anything he headed toward the source of the noise. He soon came upon the young man and his Shinx and raised an eyebrow. The guy looked way too city bred to be wandering around out here. What the hell was he doing out here then? Probably just wanting to spend some time with his Shinx it seemed. Gavin eyed the pair for a moment, debating on whether or not he recognized the person. They were really too far away to tell for certain and he wasn’t entirely keen on going closer in case it was a former gang member. With a soft huff he turned from the stranger to get to know his pokemon. He reached into his pocket and pulled out one of the pokeballs. He tossed it into the air and with a flash, a Charmander was revealed.
Char! the Charmander exclaimed boldy and Gavin smirked softly. Ah fire-types, he loved them so. Maybe he was being a bit biased but he hardly cared. He was about to open his mouth to start the training when Blaze spotted the other man and his Shinx. With a delighted cry the Charmander was taking off. Maybe the Shinx would want to play! Blaze hoped so. He wanted a new playmate so badly. Gavin scowled and started after the pokemon.
”Hey get back here!” he ordered gruffly but Blaze ignored him scampering over and skidding to a halt in front of the pair.
Char Char! the Charmander was apparently ready to play and his stance wasn’t aggressive in the least. Oh the pretty Shinx would play with him wouldn’t she? Meanwhile Gavin was muttering curses under his breath and calling the Charmander some colorful names.

Gabriel blinked at the sight of the Shinx. He honestly didn't remember catching this Pokemon, and usually his recall was stunningly flawless. Still, he also knew that he had deliberately dumped the mental tab he kept that was full of all the Pokemon he had from his time as a youth, so it was very possible that the little lion was his. His nose wrinkled when the Pokemon rubbed against his pant leg, not really liking how the little Shinx was likely sullying the fabric with dirtied fur, but he leaned down to run his fingers over the Electric-type's pelt, brow furrowing softly as he dug about in his memory. Now... what was it exactly that told whether a Shinx was male or female? He was subdued as he thought about it, his mind turning the idea over and over and over inside of its inner workings until it finally arrived at the logical answer and loyally carried it to the front of his mind. This Shinx was female. And... and he did remember her, vaguely. She would usually sleep curled up in a little Purrloin basket and would often compete with his lamp on who could light his paper the best when he wrote. He let his mind spiral back, gently reaching but not pressing the thoughts, well aware that if he tugged the train of thought he was currently grasping, he would lose it entirely. Instead, he had to gently keep hold of it in his hand and wait for it to turn back in on itself for answers. Tesla. That was what he had named the Shinx. Tesla. "Tesla," he called softly, testing the name out again on his tongue, and the little lion Pokemon instantly let out a soft noise, her whole body perking up while her tail wagged happily. "You've... really waited all this time for me, haven't you?" he breathed in a whisper, staring down at the Pokemon eagerly drinking in the attention he was giving her. She let out a soft croon, her tail tapping against the ground rhythmically before her little ears twitched and she wheeled about, bristling and sparking a little. She had to try to protect her Trainer! She had failed him once because she couldn't be there, but she wasn't going to let him down again! She bristled up, trying to make herself look intimidating to the Pokemon running towards them. Even if he looked friendly and she really wanted nothing more than to play with him... No, she wasn't going to fall into that logic! She shook her head, growling and standing firmly in front of Gabriel. She wasn't going to let him get hurt again, she wasn't! OOC: ... Less rambling, and just for the record, Gabe never got hurt from the raid. XD He wasn't home. Team-

Reddish-brown eyes glared after the Charmander as it scampered over and Gavin shook his head at the young pokemon. Stupid thing was going to be the death of him wasn’t it? He’d come out here to train for a reason. Not much stuff to burn, no worries about starting a forest fire either. Well so much for that plan. It seemed this Charmander was easily distracted. He’d work on that though once they got through this little situation.
Blaze paused at the defensive reception, eyes wide, not understanding why the little Shinx was being so defensive. He wasn’t going to hurt her trainer! He didn’t even really care about the man, so long as he let her play for a bit. It was cramped in that pokeball and lonely too. Why was she being so mean? The Charmander’s frame drooped as he backed up a step or two as Gavin reached them. The man glared down at Blaze, an almost amused expression flashing in his eyes as he shook his head at the Charmander.
”Serves you right for running off like that.” he muttered before turning to the man who was the Shinx’s trainer. ”I apologize for the intrusion. I’m still working with him.” he spoke glancing down at the Shinx with a half-smirk. ”Tough little thing you got there. I’ve heard that Shinx are good pokemon.”
he commented, bending down to offer the Shinx his hand to sniff. He wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t sniff it. He’d heard that Shinx’s could have tempers though he’d never experienced it for himself. And he certainly didn’t want to now. Char? Blaze turned back to the group expression slightly more hopeful. Maybe he would get to play after all! He perked up at this idea moving to stand beside his trainer like a good pokemon. Cause he was a good pokemon, yes he was. Most of the time anyway. Gavin was currently ignoring the Charmander because frankly he was still angry at him right now. He needed to calm down a bit so he wouldn’t make the pokemon run away again or something. He liked fire-types but he didn’t like idiocy. Funny, the other man didn’t smell like a Gijinka. He smelled… human. This was going to be fun…[/blockquote][/blockquote] STARRING : Gavin and Gabriel! WORDS : 378 STATUS : FINISHED POST! NOTES : Silly Blaze is silly. "Tesla, down," Gabriel murmured softly in an undertone, his voice firm and uncompromising, commanding instant obedience from the young Shinx at his side. She let out a quiet noise, looking back at him for a long moment before nodding, padding back to sit beside him, her tail still thumping against the ground and bringing a few stray sparks to the surface every now and again before they would flick off around her. If Gabriel had to summarize her appearance right now in a succinct, simple manner, he would claim she was sulking. He... he didn't know how he felt about that. Pokemon, to him, were powerful, yes, but he recognized that he wasn't the best one to command them, if only because so few could put up with his habits. He was a writer first and foremost, not a Trainer. And yet here Tesla was, bristling and snapping and snarling at the first Pokemon to come near him, almost as if she wanted to protect him. The image of that, of a little Shinx thinking she could protect him from the world, was one worthy of scorn, such a foolish Pokemon, but then again, a Shinx wasn't fully evolved. They could very well become evolve and become fierce creatures, the large Electric-types known as Luxrays. And that picture in his head, of having a large Luxray at his side ready to attack at a moment's notice... it gave him shivers of pleasure and satisfaction, a stroke to his ego. Yes, he'd be happy if she evolved... but that would be for later. He'd have to train her first. He turned his honey gaze in time to see an orange-haired male come trotting up, not having to look to the side to know that Tesla was likely bristling up again. "Apology accepted," he replied formally, his sense of propriety dictating his actions now. "He did not cause any harm." He blinked at his words, shrugging. "Tesla's got a good head on her shoulders, I'll give her that, but she still has some growing up to do. She'll get stronger still given enough time." Tesla, on the other hand, was not acting proper in the least little way. The little Shinx was on edge from the male's scent in the air, remembering something from when she was younger, that of pain and searing fire. He had smelled similar to this man now, though the other one had been darker-smelling. She longed to attack, if only so she could assure herself that her Trainer was going to be okay, but she restrained herself, remembering that he wanted her to keep down. When he reached his hand forward towards her face, however... she couldn't help but react. The eye contact was a bad enough sign, but reaching for her... she knew he must mean ill! She knew it! She thought nothing of lunging forward a little to bite his hand with her sharp little teeth, growling. She wouldn't let Gabriel get hurt again! OOC: ... Stupid Tesla, I'm not throwing you into a battle. That wouldn't be an even match. In addition to Gavin having more Pokemon that Gabe does... you're four or five levels higher than everyone else there. YOU ARE NOT FIGHTING YOU BRAT. *glares at her* Team-

Blaze was still sulking slightly until Gavin nudged him with the toe of his boot lightly. The Charmander gave a soft squeak as he straightened, though he still did his best not to look so intimidating. Gavin let out an irritated breath through his nose though his attention didn’t waver from the person in front of him, the human. Well he was polite enough, probably from high society if his mannerisms were anything to judge by it. He also noticed that the man’s soft but firm tone earned a quick response from the Shinx at his side. Not that he cared about the man; he was far more interested in why the Shinx had caught Blaze’s attention so quickly, distractible pokemon that he was. Likely it was female though he wasn’t convinced on that. He nodded at the man’s response, though the distraction nearly earned him a bite on the hand from the Shinx. Blaze stepped forward though putting himself between the Shinx and his trainer with a growl.
Yeah, that Shinx definitely had some growing to do.
Charmander! the fire-type was not happy that the Shinx had lunged at his trainer, granted it was probably Gavin’s fault for moving too quickly. Still the man was his trainer and he took the bite on the shoulder without complaint. He made no move to retaliate against the Shinx though, seeming to realize she was a higher leveled pokemon and intent on protecting her trainer. Gavin had sat back on his heels slightly as the Shinx lunged at him. It was tempting to retaliate but he also didn’t want to give himself away. No sense in doing that when the other was human after all. He merely snorted at the electric-type as he straightened rolling his shoulders a bit.
”My bad, little one, I didn’t mean to move too fast for you.” he murmured sticking his hands in his pockets. He seemed completely relaxed and only those that knew him would see the tense set of his shoulders. He was ready to fight or flee if he had too, though he was sincerely hoping that he didn’t have too. He didn’t like killing unless it was necessary. ”Come out here to train?” he asked casually sensing that was the likely reason. Honestly he didn’t know why he was trying to make small talk. The man was human, he probably didn’t like Gijinkas and Gavin had no intentions of dying out in the wastes if he could help it.

"Tesla!" Gabriel scolded in an angry tone, the human's brow creasing with a slight scowl, his honey eyes narrowing in reproach at her actions. Really, what had gotten into her today? If he had known she would misbehave, he would not have released her from her Pokeball! Then again, he wouldn't have known it was she who lurked within the dusty old red and white sphere that had hid in the back of his junk drawer for all that time, so he supposed he only had himself to blame. If he had simply taken a moment of his time out earlier to release the Pokemon back at his apartment, he wouldn't be in this whole mess now, but then again, he didn't know what was inside it. For all he knew, he could have caused substantial damage releasing the Pokemon in the cramped surroundings where he lived, which would have done him and his paper in. It was a catch-22 he supposed, and as usual, this was perhaps the least dangerous of his possible solutions, the least likely to end with him regretting a past action. At the call of her name, though, the young Shinx's ears flinched, recognizing she had angered Gabriel. She released her teeth immediately, retreating to sit at his side, subdued again. She had disappointed him by trying to protect him. Looks like it'd be a harder task proving that she was a good girl and that she didn't need to go back into exile again than she'd originally thought. Still, she took it in stride, realizing and reaffirming to herself the desire to do better next time. She'd prove she was useful to her Trainer! She was a good girl! Not to mention she didn't want to be left alone again. No, she'd much rather stay at Gabriel's side, there to protect him from anyone who wanted to hurt him. Her eyes were trained on the other male and his Pokemon warily, just waiting. If they made a move against her Trainer, they'd live to regret it! "My apologies for Tesla," Gabriel murmured softly, spreading his hands. "She is still young and has yet to really become acquainted with the world." Which was true enough in a sense. If his memory served him correctly, he had caught her and then never really trained her, an oversight he was now both regretting and thanking. While she wouldn't be as weak if he had trained her, she probably also wouldn't have been hiding in his junk drawer. Another paradox. The man repressed the urge to sigh. How devilishly enchanting and ridiculously brindling he found them. Either way, though, Tesla had not spent all too much time outside of her Pokeball, so she would likely take some time to readjust to that. He raised an eyebrow though at the question. "Hm, not quite," he stated, fingers drumming lightly on his thigh before he became aware of the action, scowling as he stilled them. Honestly, such nervous habits were crass and he would not stand for cultivating any more of them; the fact that he still bit his nails was disgusting enough for him, thank you very much. "Today's trek is actually for more... investigative purposes." OOC: Gabe's an investigative journalist at heart. XD He's just looking for his next big story <3 Hopefully the giant rampaging beast. *shot* Team-

With the sun high in the sky, its rays beat down on the ground below, making the area unbearably hot. Few pokemon could stand the conditions in this area to call it home - even the vegetation was long gone, only a dry and dead shrub dotted the landscape here and there. With even the gentlest of breezes, dust was whipped up, blinding those who tried to wander through, dragging along tumble weeds and dried leaves with it. It was a bad place to be... and you certainly didn't want to get lost here.
Despite the fact that the area was poor ground for any activity, it drew the attention of one beast in specific... and perhaps the worst beast it could. Black wings spread wide as the creature they carried rode the winds above, green eyes scanning the desolate land below. Not a sound fell from it's maw as it moved, using the winds to his advantage to remain downwind from anything it may stumble across. If it had it's way... it would sneak up upon it's prey and kill it without a second thought as it had countless pokemon, humans and gijinka alike before.
Ever since it had escaped that infernal company that was holding it hostage, it had done nothing but destroy and kill - leaving a path of pain, sorrow and blood behind it - and damned if it wouldn't make that trail longer. With a particularly strong gust blowing past him bringing a rather welcomed scent - humans and pokemon - the creature made a noise that could resemble a purr... if you could call it that. The sound was as distorted as it's body, dripping with malice and venom... with the hate that ran through every fiber of it's being for the creatures it hunted.
Green eyes finally spotted its targets - two people and a couple of puny pokemon. Doesn't make for much of a meal... but it was something, and in this barren landscape, it could make a total mess and completely wipe these beings out without much of a struggle. A deep growl formed in its chest, escaping through its clenched maw as it brought it's wings in, diving sharply toward the beings below. Not a moment later, it snapped it's wings open once more as it landed, sending a spray of dust and mud outward from it's being, maw parted wide to release a deafening roar, the ground shaking with the force of the impact.
Raising it's head high above the humans, propping itself up with it's wings, the creature hissed in the moments of peace before parting it's maw once more, a bright blue glow emitting from deep within. With a distorted cry, the mutant threw its head forward with the attack, sending an Aero Blast toward the small group without a second thought... but the clear intent to kill, or at least maim. Gavin didn’t mind the other trainer scolding his pokemon. It was perfectly natural though he was glad that the Shinx listened and let go. Blaze shook it off, not seeming bothered as he settled back beside his trainer. It appeared that he had gotten over the fact that the Shinx didn’t want to play and was going to ignore them now. Gavin didn’t really mind so long as Blaze didn’t wander off. He waved off the man’s apology shrugging slightly.
”It’s fine, she’s young.” he replied nonchalantly, his manner and body language saying he was completely at ease. He was really and he was in no hurry to piss off a human especially when he didn’t know whether they worked for Epispect or not. He raised an eyebrow at the man’s answer. Investigative purposes? ”Investigative? A journalist then?” he asked cocking his head slightly a curious expression on his face. He’d never met a journalist before and now he was a bit curious. He wouldn’t be telling the man anything about himself of course but hey it might be good to have a friend in that business.
Those thoughts left his head as soon as he heard the thud and booming roar.
He sucked in a breath at the sight of the pokemon, shifting so that he was partially between the human and the attacker without thinking. He didn’t realize his protective streak had kicked into over drive until he heard Blaze let out a squeak and flee back into his pokeball. Well one less thing to protect and it seemed he was going to have to reveal his secret. He saw the bluish light forming and knew the beast was about to attack.
”Move!” he snapped before he retaliated with a Flame Thrower to try and divert the beast’s attack. He was trying to give Gabriel some time to get away if at all possible. Likely the human would try to be stupid and stick around, end up getting in the way. Either way Gavin was highly doubting that he’d get out of this without serious injuries or worse. He let out a Roar that while not as loud as the beast’s was fearsome in its own right. Gavin was not to be taken lightly and if the beast thought he would roll over easily it had another thing coming.
Gavin would gladly correct that little mistake.

Gabriel's brow flickered for just a moment when the other male hit the nail on the head. Very few actually guessed he was a journalist, a writer, a scribbler of words!, and yet this man had done so with barely a flicker of thought. He was much more used to being thought of as an Epispect agent when he mentioned investigative purposes. Which he wasn't, there were a few things about the company that just rubbed him the wrong way, but still. He would take advantage of that usually and only reveal his true purpose afterwards, most of the time just before he went to print in order to prevent him from being sued for libel. Libel was always a pain in the ass, even if it was hard to prove. Court sessions stained a man's reputation forever, guilty or not. Besides, he was a wordsmith, not a killer. "Aye. I am Roy diAngelo." The pen name slipped easily from his tongue, not a hint of anything being betrayed on his face for the slight lie - or rather, omission of the truth. He did write under the pseudonym Roy diAngelo, in fact he published almost all of his work under said name, but it was not his real name. Heh. Not like it mattered anyway. In his experience, it was best to separate business from pleasure as thoroughly as possible, even if what you did for a living was mildly pleasurable. He opened his mouth to inquire about the other's name when he was interrupted by a huge wave of wind, a thud, and a piercing roar. He couldn't believe his luck. His first day off in a long time, one he had taken out to search for the source of the mysterious swath of destruction of late, and here it was. Not a furious Tyranitar like he'd thought... but some kind of beast he had never seen before. His hand crept towards his pocket, seeking out his Pokedex to try to determine more about the creature attacking him, but its journey was interrupted when Tesla tackled him with a loud cry, pushing him out of the way of the attack. Honey opticals went wide when he turned to see her taking the brunt of the huge blast of wind, but when it let up, he could see Tesla with her little eyes squeezed shut, floating panels around her still glistening as she put all of her energy and concentration into a move he vaguely remembered obtaining the Technical Machine for and then teaching methodically to every Pokemon he had. Protect. The little Shinx was panting heavily when she opened her eyes slowly, dropping the attack now that she had no more need for it, and it was with that that Gabriel realized she had likely saved him from serious injury there. After all, it wasn't like he was a Gijinka, not like the man who clearly had revealed himself as such with the attack he'd thrown at the beast. But still, he wasn't about to leave the man to be eaten. He may be hard to pin down for his own safety and not really seem to give a shit about breaking a few laws for the good of a story, but dammit, that didn't mean he didn't have his own sets of morals! And he would not stand idly by when a man took blows meant for the both of them. "Tesla, get ready," he stated, causing the Shinx to look at him with wide eyes. "We're going to fight too if the great beast has anything to say about it." The little girl nodded, determination shining in her gaze. She was strong enough for this... she hoped... OOC: ... Wow, looks like Gabe called it. o.O Apparently he has amazing instincts. Now, if I can just convince him that running away could ensure he's more likely to live than staying...Team-
