LET THE WHOLE THING BLOW
B A S I C I N F O
★ NAME: Xavier Christopher Cross
★ NICKNAME: DJ X (Pronounced “DJ Cross”)
★ MEMBER GROUP: Team Rocket
★ POKEMON: Seismitoad
★ STATUS Illegal
★ AGE: 21
★ HEIGHT: 5’9”
★ WEIGHT: 145lbs.
★ FACE CLAIM: Original Art (Not drawn by me.)
★ APPEARANCE:
Though not incredibly tall, Xavier appears to have a sort of lanky, almost stringy build due to the fact that he enjoys sheathing his slender form in baggy clothing. While not exactly lean or muscular, Xavier has a strength to his form that is only really seen when performing heavy labor. His light skin tone takes away from any poster masculinity he would have as well; pale and pasty, he looks more like a guy who would be more content spending his life indoors in front of a TV than out exerting himself. Many could say he looks younger than he is due to his round facial structure, and the fact that his neutral expression seems distant, clueless, and almost unsure. His straight, royal blue hair is kept in a shaggy style that seems to want to be a bowlcut, but is far too uneven and not very tended to besides the daily shake-out. He has black eyes resting on red sclera, which is really his only giveaway trait as a gajinka besides his oddly-colored hair.
A lover of urban-style clothing and cool colors, Xavier garbs himself in shades of blue to reflect his gajinka species. His usual attire is a bright cyan tank top beneath a heavy jacket of a darker, deeper blue. The jacket bears padding on the shoulders and circles embroidered into the back that give it a very Seismitoad look, and bear many pockets on its front. There are also several pockets in his cargo pants, which match his jacket in shade and are baggy without being excessively loose-fitting. Completing his ensemble are a pair of fingerless gloves with blue padding to match his Seismitoad-themed jacket and black athletic shoes that seem more stylish than sporty.
Xavier is never seen without his two favorite accessories; a pair of blue aviator goggles and a vintage-style pair of headphones, both styled to look like the protrusions on a Seismitoad (or perhaps Tympole, considering the headphones).

P E R S O N A L I T Y
★ POSITIVE:
- Easygoing: Xavier has a go-with-the-flow attitude that lets him take just about anything in stride. He is a firm believer in the phrase “to each their own,” and doesn’t force his opinions on anyone unless they ask… or if their views differ from those of Team Rocket. He lives his life with no worries and no regrets, and his only desire in life is to keep living it that way.
- Focused: As airheaded and carefree as he may seem, Xavier has a frightening ability to become militantly focused when given a task to complete or when he has a goal in mind. He sets all of his sights on completing his task at hand, and does not accept failure as an option. Particularly when following the orders of a superior, Xavier does everything in his power to ensure that he is successful at what he does.
- Quick Thinker: A development from his go-with-the-flow lifestyle, Xavier has learned to think on his feet and address situations as quickly as they arise. He has excellent mental reaction time, and an awareness of his surroundings that allows him to be ready for just about anything. He is even capable of making small, quick strategies in the heat of the moment, though it isn’t rare for him to overlook or leave out details in such situations.
- Caring: Xavier watches out for whoever watches out for him, particularly when that someone is a Pokémon. While not a violent person, he is not at all afraid to throw a punch or two for the sake of a comrade’s wellbeing—be it their physical wellbeing or their pride. As long as those close to him are striving to improve themselves and find their place in the world, he is willing to defend them and help pull them up when they fall down. As long as his Pokémon are willing to work themselves to the bone training under his command, he is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that they are always happy and healthy.
- Perseverant: If at first Xavier doesn’t succeed, he will try until he does or dies trying. He isn’t, however, naïve and understands that if he does not succeed at something initially, he needs to change something. As such, he takes training and strategizing very seriously. Even when suffering a bad situation, Xavier prefers to pull himself out of it using his own power as opposed to running or giving up.
★ NEGATIVE:
- Stubborn: Xavier doesn’t harp on others when they do things their way, and expects the same “courtesy” when he does things his way. He doesn’t like to follow directions if they don’t align with something he would do, and would much prefer to be given a task to complete at will than to have something planned out for him. As such, he’s also not a fan of directly working with others.
- Picky: Xavier knows what he likes and what he doesn’t, and if something falls into the latter category, he’ll have absolutely nothing to do with it. While this is most prevalent in his Trainer side, he is picky about everything from food to clothing to the kinds of Pokémon he catches.
- Workaholic: Xavier embodies all the negative traits of being a hard worker. Be it training himself or his Pokémon, Xavier tends to work until the point of exhaustion, and then attempt to work beyond it. He doesn’t like having too much free time, and always feels the need to be doing something else he’s not getting the most out of life. Boredom is the bane of his existence, and he wards it off with gusto whenever it rears its ugly head.
- Perfectionist: Xavier is a showman at heart and is all about the performance. As such, he likes every battle, mission, and every decisive action to be perfect. It is because he seeks this perfection that he pours all of his effort into the rehearsal that is his training and strategizing.
- One-Track Mind: When Xavier has a goal in mind or a task to carry out, it is the only thing he focuses on. Anything else doesn’t matter, which may leave him with cold words for those unrelated to what he’s trying to accomplish or those standing in his way. Even without something to do, Xavier’s mind is always on his Trainer career, and his dream of assembling a team comprised solely of Pokémon able to harness the beauty of sound.
★ HABITS, QUIRKS:
- Phonically Sensetive: Xavier’s strangest quirk, he is extremely sensitive when it comes to music and sound. He is always wearing his headphones and listening to music, and it will bother him beyond all fathomable reason if the song he’s listening to doesn’t match the area he’s in. A sour note in a song is like nails on a chalkboard to him, and harsh noises seem to cause him physical pain.
- Tuner: Due to his phonic sensitivity, Xavier carries a set of small tuning forks on him at all times. The harmonious sound they produce when struck against an object is very calming to him, as well as the vibration causing the sound. He attributes this particular branch of his phonic sensitivity to his Seismitoad DNA.
- Showman: Whenever Xavier feels he has an audience, he can’t resist the urge to perform. Taking after his DJ image, whenever he battles in the view of a crowd he makes sure to hype it by putting artistic flair into his actions and showing off the best of his sarcastic, witty humor. To those that know him, he seems like a much livelier, snarkier person when he knows a lot of people are watching.
- Sound Bias: While there are Trainers out there that are partial to certain types of Pokémon or Pokémon with certain builds, Xavier loves any species of Pokémon that has harnessed the power of sound. He has dedicated himself to training only those species, and will not even catch things that aren’t on his list of favorites unless he thinks they are popular enough to trade off for something he wants.
- Back-Alley Rat: Despite the fact that one of his favorite places to be is amongst the urban nightlife, Xavier also likes to find places where he can enjoy the silence that being solitary brings. As such, he loves to explore places where most upstanding citizens would fear to tread; from dripping sewers to dilapidated buildings on the outskirts of town, he’s not afraid to take a look around.
★ OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Xavier is, for the most part, an easygoing free spirit. As long as he is allowed to live and act as he wants, he is a calm and generally friendly guy.
He believes everyone should be free to do their own thing in life, and thus dislikes when people impose their ideas on others. Coupled with his frustration at the other warring facets of humanity, this is one of the main reasons why he became a member of Team Rocket. He is adamant about letting others live how they want, and thus expects the same respect from others. He is quick to inform others of this preference if they violate it, and even quicker to remind them. He doesn’t take advice about his lifestyle well, including—and perhaps particularly—commentary regarding the flaws of his personality. He acknowledges them yet has no desire to change them, seeing his flaws more like parts of his personality that are only pluses on occasion.
Xavier desires to live a life with no regrets and no worries, and actively works to make it happen. He simply doesn’t allow himself to stress out or wallow in sadness, instead channeling his negative emotions into useable energy. He is a workaholic that needs something to do all the time, and fills his spare time with training sessions be it for fighting, singing, DJing, or training Pokémon. More often than not he takes these training sessions to the extreme, exhausting himself in the process. Even then, he typically tries to carry on against his better judgment.
All of his hard training can also be attributed to his perfectionist side, which stems from his whole philosophy on life. To Xavier, the world is a stage and each individual within it is a performer with their own songs to sing. To him, living is an art and he believes that—like any art—it should be as close to perfect as possible when presented to an audience. As such, Xavier likes anything that he does to be aesthetically perfect, particularly when the point of the action itself is to make a statement. For the same reason, he gets extremely embarrassed when he ends up looking silly and shrinks into himself.
While Xavier is typically calm, carefree, and fairly gentle, there is a side of him that is much colder and much more driven by ambition. Typically, the only goals in life he is concerned with are his desire to raise a team of Pokémon that harness the powers of sound, his desire to live with no regrets, and his desire to help Team Rocket create a world where people won’t be eradicated because they illegally achieved a relatively understandable dream that they were denied. When given a task to complete or when he develops a short-term goal, he becomes focused—“locked,” even—on fulfilling that task or goal. He does not accept failure as an option and will not let defeat stop him from trying again. Because he can get almost obsessively stuck on getting things done his own way when he has a job to do, he dislikes working with others and doesn’t follow directions well. He works best when given a task and let loose to complete it how he wishes.
Despite the fact that Xavier prefers to keep his beliefs to himself, there are two things that he is very adamant about. He is extremely opinionated about the struggle between the gijinkas, humans, and Epispect, believing that the entire dispute came about through one group forcing their beliefs on the others. At this point, he believes it would be best if things just started anew. He is also adamant about how he trains Pokémon; he believes that the best method to get Pokémon to work hard and flourish to their full potential is to befriend them, but make them work for their respect. Nothing makes him wrinkle his nose more than a spoiled Pokémon.

H I S T O R Y
- Born to a pair of musicians living in the middle-class housing district, Xavier was born to a world where everything seemed perfect. Sheltered from the viral scare that occurred all around him outside of the walls of his home, he grew up believing that the world was a happy place and that people were generally nice and accepting as most young children are led to believe. News of people dying of the horrid virus flew right over his head, barely referred to by his parents and even then spoken in hushed code that a toddler couldn't possibly comprehend.
- When Epispect's breakthrough procedure guaranteed an immunity to the virus, Xavier's parents immediately hopped on the bandwagon and paid to be turned into gajinkas. His mother became a Maractus gajinka and his father a Cacturne, and together the pair became an even more popular musical duo due to their similarities in appearance. As Xavier grew from a toddler into a child, he came to know his parents as gajinkas, but saw them as no different from himself or other regular humans.
- As prejudice toward gijinkas became even more severe and as Epispect began hunting down illegals, Xavier and his family became more hard-pressed. His parents pulled themselves from their music careers altogether, pooling their life savings and living off of that for as long as they could. They broke contact with friends who turned against them for being gijinkas, and strengthened their contacts with those they knew they could trust. Using this tight-knit network, they were able to not only survive, but have Xavier home-schooled for fear of the ridicule he might’ve been met with upon others seeing him with his gijinka parents. Naturally, he was taught the value of the arts at a young age, and entertained himself by composing simple tunes and crafting crude structures from building blocks and children’s clay. His childhood was fairly secluded, his circle of friends limited to the children of his parents’ trusted friends and perhaps the friends of those friends if he was lucky.
- It was not until his teens that his parents caught wind of the new faction attempting to calm the tides between humans, gijinkas, and Epispect: Team Rocket. At first they were skeptical of the organization, fearful of the infamous name and convinced they hid some sort of destructive cause. They paid very close attention to what information they could attain regarding it, however, and eventually decided they stood for a worthy cause. Along with some friends—human and gijinka alike—they joined the organization, hoping that they could help end the misery that was befalling gijinkas regardless of legality. They hoped to make a world where their son wouldn’t be ridiculed for having gijinka parents, and could even make the decision to become a gijinka himself without having to worry about the social consequences.
- His parents tried to keep him blissfully ignorant of the gijinka-hating world around him, but as Xavier grew into adolescence he quickly began to understand his parents reasoning for raising him in such an isolated, controlled fashion. As he was trusted to leave the house more often on his own, he would catch snippets of conversations degrading gijinkas or see the strange looks people would give them upon seeing them use their Pokémon abilities. Growing up amazed and charmed by his parents’ moves, he couldn’t bring himself to understand why people were so hateful of gijinkas until his parents deemed him old enough—and themselves confident enough—to sit him down and have a discussion about the world beyond his sheltered life. It was then that they also presented him with a decision. They would let him choose where he wanted to stand, be it with the humans as a fellow gijinka-hater, with Team Rocket or Epispect as a human supporter… or with Team Rocket as a gajinka.
- Naturally, Xavier had been almost conditioned by his parents to love and respect gijinkas, and as such wanted nothing more than to stand by their side. When he disclosed that he wanted to become a gijinka as well, his parents understood the path they would have to take to make their child’s dream come true. Seeing as Epispect was already on their tails for being affiliated with Team Rocket and aiding illegal gijinkas, they figured killing an agent or two for their DNA wouldn’t be terribly hard. Knowing their son’s affinity for music and sound-harnessing Pokémon, they actively drew the attention of Epispect agents to themselves in order to attract a gijinka agent with the abilities they were looking for. Though working for Team Rocket had given them experience in battle with Pokémon and their gijinka abilities alike, Epispect’s agents eventually managed to get the best of them; though they managed to get the DNA of a Seismitoad gijinka, Xavier’s father perished at the hands of the fallen agent’s partner as he created a window for his wife to escape with the prize.
- Motivated by the loss of his father and inspired by his parents’ sacrifice, Xavier underwent the gijinka procedure after many years of his mother attempting to make contact with black market surgeons. He vowed to join Team Rocket, though only after helping his mother recuperate from the loss of her husband and the wounds that she sustained from the battle that cost his life. Eventually, she returned to Team Rocket, though her condition left her unfit for involving herself in battles personally and thus she returned solely as a menial worker since she did not have any Pokémon to combat the other factions with. Seeing that his mother was back on her own two feet, Xavier moved out into a home of his own farther toward the outskirts of town. It was here where he picked up most of who he is today, as his sheltered lifestyle left him a naive child with little in terms of personality. He quickly learned independence, and learned to rely on his own strength and will even faster. Eventually, he felt that it was time for him to forward his parents' cause, and thus the cause of Team Rocket.

★ OOC NAME: Ghetsis
★ AGE: 20
★ OTHER CHARACTERS: None yet.
★ RP SAMPLE:
Xavier listened respectfully as Danielle spoke, though he was not entirely sure he liked the way she had looked at Dirge. As a partially Fighting-type Trainer, she was likely deeming the Loudred as cannon fodder. He couldn't help but smile as she mentioned that he could only use four pokemon; that was all he had. He assumed a more proper position on the battlefield, letting Dirge stomp up behind him.
His whole intention of challenging the gym was for the Grass-type prize... and how ironic for him that one such pokemon had been sent out first. It was most definitely unfortunate, though, that said pokemon was Ferrothorn. He didn't have any Fire-type moves on him at the moment. Fortunately, he could at least do neutral damage. He ran a hand a cross the pokeballs at his belt, retrieving Rhythm's and releasing the Chatot onto the battlefield.
"Hello! Greetings, salutations, god'den. Shall we begin?" the colorful bird crooned, raising a wing to his opponent. He then glanced over his shoulder at his Trainer, awaiting his first instruction for the battle.
"Sing for me, Rhythm. And follow that up with a bit of Chatter." Xavier ordered, to which his pokemon nodded and took flight. He fluttered toward the disc-like pokemon, beginning to serenade the pokemon with a soothing vocal lullaby. His tone remained calm and gentle until he began to Chatter nonstop about various topics in a harsh tone. One moment he spoke of the Ferrothorn's angry appearance, the next of his wonderful Trainer, and eventually settled on how thrilling it was to engage in a Gym battle. The bird screeched in a manner that was alike to nails on a chalkboard, sending sound waves that rippled through the air at the spiny pokemon. Xavier cocked his head to the side, closing his eyes tightly at the sound. While Chatter wasn't one of his favorite moves for its harsh, dissonant sound, he couldn't argue that it was an effective long-range attack in this situation.
