Stupid sibling. What did she know? He had been making money fighting, no matter that it was illegal or that he was now a gijinka. He wasn't stupid. He knew how to hide his tracks, he knew what he was doing. Now, she'd kicked him out here, to fend for himself. How could she be so cruel? How could life be so cruel? Where had he ever done wrong by it?
Loki wallowed in self pity as he kicked up the dry, dusty ground, dragging his feet. He knew he was in a place they called 'the wastelands'. Well, there had to be pokemon here, too, right? It was still a rather dull place. He hadn't really been paying much attention when he'd wandered in this direction. He wanted to be back home, making money, hanging with his pals, fighting in the nightly battles between gijinka. That was the life. Who wanted to be a stupid trainer? That was just boring. Letting pokemon do all the fighting for you, like some wimp!
Still, he'd had no real choice. She had taken his money and put it in a 'trust fund' for him. She'd kicked him out with nothing but the knapsack on his back. Now he was here, pokedex, balls, a few potions...and no pokemon. Why gijinka couldn't get one he didn't know. He'd argued how unfair it was. But did they listen? Noooo. He'd been told he could handle himself, and that was that. Stupid, they were all stupid. Only he, Lokian Salvatore, possessed the cunning and skills to outwit them all! Or so he told himself. It didn't explain why he was out on his ass, in the wastelands, scanning the dry terrain for any signs of pokemon life.
He wanted something powerful! Like maybe a legendary pokemon! Yeah, legendary pokemon should be so lucky to have a tamer like him! Maybe he'd settle for something else. Like a fully evolved dragon type! How badass would that look? He would win every fight...then his face fell again. They would win every fight. What a shitty lot he'd been dealt. He could almost, just almost, feel himself tearing up. Only that was the dust in his eyes. But no matter! He would cry manly tears if he didn't have dust in his eyes!
He looked around him, hands behind his head. He was glad it was practically windless today. He turned a full circle, and then sighed. Damn this was boring as hell. Where were the pokemon? At least if one showed up, he could legitimately fight it. That would be cooler than wandering about looking for them. Still not as cool as fighting other gijinka, though. Nothing was as cool as that.

WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Buneary || Female || Klutz || Normal || 05 Splash || Pound || Defense Curl || Foresight || The wastelands left the little rabbit wanting for better lands, like those near the sea where there was always grass, or those near the city where there were parks. Unfortunately, she’d heard rumours of a very nice place far away. Silly her, she’d actually believed said rumours and followed the directions until she came to… this place. A long, flat place of nothing but dirt and dust and gross things. Nope; this wasn’t the place for her, this was a damned wasteland.
The Buneary had already run into quite a number of heathen, vicious things. For one, she’d tried asking a Charmeleon how to get out of this place, and all he’d done was spit fireballs at her until she was practically on fire. Of course, a fast escape was always the most effective way of getting her point across, and she’d run until the fire was out. There was a second incident where she’s so unhappily wandered up to a Golurk to try and ask where she was, and of course, she was chased away then too. Ah, what a life. What a situation! But she’d get out, she knew she would!
And miracle of miracles, she spotted a human walking along just beyond a few trees. Humans were compassionate things, as far as she was concerned. Back in the city, the girls from the local school would feed her carrots whenever she visited, and she had absolutely no reason to feel ill of humans. And so the Buneary happily skipped up to the person and tugged at his pant leg, wanting to get his attention.

Lokian was pretty surprised when he looked down to see a small pokemon, tugging at his pant leg. He had thought most pokemon would be wary of humans--or gijinka--and have to be battled due to them attacking, or would not come near without coaxing. But here he was, looking down at a pokemon he recognized to be a buneary. It was certainly cute. He was a manly man, though! He didn't do cute! He still felt bad for the pokemon, and curious as to what it wanted. In a place like this, the climate wasn't exactly hospitable to a cute little thing like this was. He cringed. There he went again: cute. Lokian and cute didn't mix. Yet there was no one here that could read his mind, and no one was even looking. He knelt down, and looked curiously at it. It might have been hungry, or lost. He had some pokemon chow on him. He had planned on catching something and he knew he'd have to care for it. This wasn't what he'd had in mind, but maybe it wasn't doing so well, out here on its own. It looked like the fur on the back of the pokemon was singed! What had done that to it? Now he felt even worse, and couldn't really ignore the fact that it was not only perhaps hurt but lost and scared? Ugh. Why did it have to find him first, of all people?
He reached into his bag, and pulled out a pokechow block, offering it to the small pokemon. He then pulled out a water bottle and twisted off the lid of his water container, and poured some in. What was he supposed to do? It wanted something from him, and he wasn't so heartless as to turn it away with a swift boot or anything. This was not cool, though. Here he had been, looking for something tough and imposing! And this is what he found. In a place like this, he'd expected something else...
He wasn't stupid enough to not know all pokemon could battle. Even this little guy--or girl. Still, he knew what kind of pokemon he wanted, and this one didn't fall into the list, or even the category. Still, maybe if he took it with him, he could let it go somewhere better than this. It couldn't hurt, right? If that's what it wanted, that was. He couldn't see how it would want to stay here. Only tough pokemon would do very well here--or so that was his opinion. Not much grew here, and there was probably a reason this little pokemon was burned. Probably another pokemon had done that. Hopefully not a gijinka. That made his blood boil. If they weren't going to catch it, they shouldn't harm it!
"Hey, I'm Loki. What is it you want?" He felt kind of stupid, trying to talk to it. But he'd given it food and water. That was something. Maybe it would want some help getting out of here. He scowled to himself. Of course, of all the luck. "This place doesn't look like somewhere I'd want to be. I'm just here to find some pokemon for my team, and I'm leaving when I've got one or two I'm looking for. If you want to come with me, least I can do is get you out of here. You might have to stay in a pokeball for a while, though. It'd be safer that way, unless you want to walk." He frowned, feeling ridiculous. Maybe it wouldn't want to be in a pokeball. He'd heard pokemon were warm and safe in there. What they did inside it he had no clue. Maybe the buneary wanted to walk. He wasn't going to carry it! He intended to battle at least something he met out here. And he couldn't afford to put it in harm's way. He wet a cloth, then. The singing looked like it might have burned it. Some cool water would do it good on it, to clean it up.
"Look, it's a cloth, and water. If you let me I can maybe help that burn of yours feel better. But don't go telling all your buddies, if you've got them. I'm here for the pokemon on my list. Not a bunch of lost little guys like you, okay?" He wondered how much pokemon understood of the human language. He assumed most, if not all. After all they talked back...in their way. And they followed commands and responded and all that. Still, he was glad no one could see him right now...

WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Buneary || Female || Klutz || Normal || 05 Splash || Pound || Defense Curl || Foresight || Ah, so this human was compassionate! She nodded and clapped her little paws in appreciation when he handed her down some food and water, eagerly eating up the block and gulping down the water. That was much better, and she was certainly feeling a bit more cheerful now that her belly was full and it didn’t feel so hot. Of course, the fur on her back was still singed, but it would grow back soon enough. It looked horribly dirty, but it would soon be gone, and she’d be out of this horrid place before anything else could get her.
The human stooped towards her, talking in whatever language humans spoke. ”Bun! Buneary!” She replied, though she really had no idea what he was saying. She couldn’t understand human, after all, though some psychic pokemon could read their minds and tell what they were thinking. It would be a convenient thing to have if she could do that, so she could thank this human properly. Still, she got the gist of what he was saying when he handed her down a cloth that was damp with water.
The little rabbit took the soaked towel and rubbed down her fur on her own, definitely helping to cool her back just a bit. When she was done, she handed it back gratefully. ”Buneary~”

Lokian couldn't really help but think that the buneary was cute, now could he? No, it didn't make him less manly. He was very manly! He watched her with interest, and after she took the cloth and wiped herself, he could tell that whatever had happened to her was already healing all right. Cleaning it up didn't hurt any, though. It would run less chance of getting infected. But if he took her with him, there would be a pokemon center, at the very least, and she would be completely healed and free from any chance of infection whatsoever. Still, he wasn't about to hurt the little thing by fighting with it to get inside a pokeball. He was at a loss of what to do. Would it come willingly?
He decided to let it eat and drink first. After all, now that it was clean, probably it would want that next. In the meantime, even if he wasn't sure if it had really understood what he'd said, even though he knew most pokemon did, he spoke to it in a neutral voice so it would probably at least sense he meant it well--if the food and cloth and whatnot weren't enough to clue it in, that was.
"So, that doesn't look too bad," he said, glad that it didn't but wishing it were better, "I wonder what attacked you. A fire pokemon, maybe?" He wouldn't have minded battling said fire pokemon, and catching it. He took a pokeball from his belt, and pointed to it, explaining, "that's where you can go if you want to travel safely with me. Normally it catches pokemon, you see. But some go with trainers because they want to, and it's actually a really great kind of life." He smiled a little. He was a gijinka, and he loved battling. He could understand how pokemon could, too. Yet if they didn't want to? He wasn't about to force it on them. Pokemon were companions, too. Some people bred them, or just lived alongside them. It was pretty cool, being a pokemon--or a gijinka!
"You can finish up eating, I won't go anywhere or try anything." He looked out over the wastelands. Not a nice place to live. He wouldn't want to. Probably the pokemon didn't either. He was surprised that he could smell something...she was female. He knew it, even though it wasn't like he'd checked to be sure! Well, that was another surprise for today. Houndoom had great noses. He could smell all kinds of things, but this was a new discovery. Odd, but not really unwanted. It was kind of cool, really.

WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Buneary || Female || Klutz || Normal || 05 Splash || Pound || Defense Curl || Foresight || The little rabbit stared in wonder at the capsule that was presented before her; white and red with a black stripe around the middle. She’d seen some of those school girls that fed her with some of those, and out came pokemon! Was he thinking of holding her in one of those? That was a very strange idea, as it looked like she was much too big to fit. However, if other Pokemon could do it, perhaps she could too. She reached out and tapped the red top in curiousity, listening to the human speak. He had a nice voice, and she didn’t mind it at all.
That’s when her ears twitched, hearing something charging towards them from somewhere to her right. Raising her head, the Buneary caught sight of a cloud of dust rapidly approaching on the horizon. ”Buneary!” She cried in warning, jumping and hopping up to the human’s shoulders before pointing his head in the dust cloud’s direction. Another wild Pokemon was approaching, and it surely wasn’t going to be as nice as her.
WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Rhyhorn || Female || Rock Head || Ground / Rock || 06 Horn Attack || Tail Whip || - - - || - - - || The Rhyhorn was not happy whatsoever. Something had come into her territory, and she’d smelled the strangers long before they decided to stomp around and scatter their smell everywhere. Having wandered around most of the day, she caught scent of what smelled like a Pokemon and a human, perhaps a team of trainer and fighter. No, that would not do whatsoever. They were on her turf, and she was not allowing them to go around and ruin her territory.
As soon as she caught wind of them, she charged blindly in their direction, no matter who they actually where. Oh yes, she was very angry, and the rock-ground type was going to give them a piece of her mind. They would think twice about encroaching on strange areas now, once she was done.

Loki smiled at the buneary, and then told her,
"It doesn't hurt, you know. It's really supposed to be safe, and warm. Plus if you want to come out at any time, I'm not going to stop you." He watched as she touched the top, as if examining it. Suddenly, however, she was up on his shoulder in the next instant, and looked up, startled. They weren't alone any longer. There was a new pokemon here now, and it didn't look happy to see him. The fact that the little pokemon had turned his head in the direction to warn him was actually pretty cute, too--but no time for that now. He had to do something, and that something would involve protecting the little buneary from another pokemon hurting her!
"Don't worry, stay up there and I'll keep you safe, okay?" He braced himself, more than a little concerned. Why did it have to be something he was not as suited to fight? That type of pokemon didn't mesh well with his houndoom gijinka's DNA. Still, he wasn't going to let buneary get hurt, or go down without a fight!
He had to even the odds here. Fire type moves weren't very good against it, but if he upped his fire moves, they'd be just as, if not more, effective! He concentrated, and felt his firepower rising. Nasty Plot, that was a good move to start with, and then, he folded his hands, save two fingers, and put them under his mouth, aimed for the oncoming rhyhorn, and then burst forth a searing hot and long blast of flame in a Flamethrower attack!
He shot the buneary a reassuring grin, and said, while watching to see if the rhyhorn had been hit,
"See? I'll keep ya' safe! That rhyhorn won't touch a fur on you, on my honor as a man!" He pumped his fist, grinning wildly. The fight was on, and he was going to come out on top!

WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Buneary || Female || Klutz || Normal || 05 Splash || Pound || Defense Curl || Foresight || The little rabbit stayed perched on the human’s shoulders, safe and sound from the thundering Rhyhorn that was coming right their way. It seemed that the guy had no fear, and she was glad for that, as Rhyhorns were notorious for being mean spirited and attacking anything within range. The human certainly seemed very confident, and she soon found out why.
She wasn’t even aware that humans could spout flames, but apparently this one did. Heck, now that she thought about it, this human smelled different than all those other humans she had encountered. She watched as he curled flames right at the angry Pokemon coming right their way, hoping it was enough to stop it.
WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Rhyhorn || Female || Rock Head || Ground / Rock || 06 Horn Attack || Tail Whip || - - - || - - - || The Rhyhorn roared in fury as she human and the Pokemon came nearer. She lowered her head, ready to send the both of them flying when all the sudden, she saw a low glow coming from the human’s mouth. What was the man doing?
She found out soon enough, as the next thing she knew, she was entirely engulfed in a great tower of flames. The grey Pokemon roared in fury, shaking off the flames that weren’t too effective on her in the first place, lowering her head once more as she got ready to charge again. The move only served to slow her a little, maybe do just a fraction of damage, but it wasn’t too bad. She still had some fight. The Rhyhorn’s horn began to glow in a horn attack as she bent and went right back to charging, whipping her head back and forth in hopes of throwing the human and his little Pokemon.

Loki frowned. This was bad. He wasn't good against rock types, but he wasn't about to just give up! Besides, it had shaken off the flames, hardly hurt by them. Well, he'd just have to change that, wouldn't he? He concentrated again, using his Nasty Plot again. After that, his fire type moves should be affecting the Rhyhorn like any other pokemon! Still, he hadn't had time to prepare another flamethrower, and it was almost upon them! He opened his mouth, and grimaced as noxious, poisonous gas spewed out of it in a spray of purple-green Smog obstructing him and the Buneary from view. It gave him just enough time to get out of the way--or so he'd hoped.
He felt a sharp pain clip his leg, causing him to stumble but right himself quickly, moving out of the way of totally being hit. Still, he knew he had been grazed, and there was a nasty gash on his leg from the Rhydon's attack. Shit, shit, shit! It wasn't going to need stitches, but it was still an ugly cut. Now he was pissed, and braced himself. There was a decent percentage of a chance that the Rhyhorn would be poisoned if it ran into the through his smog gas. Did it? It had hit him, so he was hopeful it had!
He ignored his leg--it was just a flesh wound and nothing horribly serious. The blood that was slowly seeping from the wound down his skin was annoying, though. It just served to piss him off more, and he could use that in this fight! He wasn't going to let some rock pokemon get the better of him. He had used Nasty Plot twice now. It would compensate for the difference in type attack. He still had other moves up his sleeve and planned to use them, if need be. What the Rhydon did next would probably decide what he did. He wasn't going to be beat. He shot the little pokemon a smirk, and braced himself for whatever came next.

WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Rhyhorn || Female || Rock Head || Ground / Rock || 06 Horn Attack || Tail Whip || - - - || - - - || The ground-rock type was just about to collide with the human, swinging her horn back and forth in fury when all the sudden, there was a large cloud of disgusting smoke that seemed to envelope the both of them. The Rhyhorn, caught by surprise, veered a bit to the right to avoid the cloud, managing to just graze the human’s leg. She coughed on the dispersed gas, thankfully not taking a full whiff of it, before charging forward and turning again to face the human. He was a feisty one, and the Buneary on his shoulders was beginning to annoy her.
She had yet to be beat; not even close. The poison gas was gross, but hadn’t given her poisoning, and so she was still on her feet. Roaring and bellowing, she pawed the ground and practically touched her nose to the dirt. Her single horn glowed with power and once again, she charged head first at the boy. He was injured, and jumping out of the way seemed unlikely. She’d kick him right into space if she had to, if it’d get him out of her territory. She had rightfully claimed it as her’s and she’d protect it.

He hadn't poisoned the Rhydon--just pissed it off. He wasn't doing a whole lot of damage to it, and that had to change, fast. He had a bit of an injury on his leg, and he would have liked a moment just to clean it up and stick a band-aid on it, damn it. Still, he didn't have time for that. And the pokemon was charging again. Damn it but it was persistent! Still, it was a good fight, and he was liking every minute of it! His only concern was Buneary--not himself. He could take a lot of a beating. The little pokemon he was protecting? Not so much. He threw back his head and let out a Howl, eerie and reverberating in the emptiness. He planted his feet, waiting for the pokemon to get close enough. He wasn't always going to try to dodge, even if the pokemon was mistaken in thinking he was so injured in the leg he could not. Nope, not this time! Instead, when the Rhyhorn probably thought it was going to hit him full on, he drew back his fist, which could now be seen to have a black and blue, smoky aura around it, and threw it forward into a powerful sucker punch! He had used a never missing move, because he couldn't afford to use anything else at the moment. Faint Attack was the way to go! And wouldn't that rocky pokemon be in for a surprise? He was glad Buneary was okay, and holding on. He could handle this pokemon for the both of them. When he was done, he had decided to capture her--hopefully he won this battle. Didn't mean he was done, though. He was going to keep it up, because that's what real fighters did! He took the opportunity to move again, preparing himself for another attack from his opponent. This was one hell of a battle. Rock types were tough, but so was he! No way he was going down, not today. Rhyhorn had another thing coming if she thought he was just going to let her beat him and then possibly hurt the Buneary he was protecting! WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Rhyhorn || Female || Rock Head || Ground / Rock || 06 Horn Attack || Tail Whip || - - - || - - - || The howl hit her ears and the Rhyhorn blinked once, unsure of how to proceed. What was he, some sort of Mightyena? A dog? Humans didn’t howl, though with a whiff of the air, she could already tell this one was a bit different. He didn’t smell like human completely, though perhaps he had a pet of some sort and the smell was sticking. Whatever it happened to be, she wasn’t having any of it. She was weakened decently by the past blows, but she was still kicking and wasn’t afraid to kick this arrogant boy’s ass right out of her territory.
Stupid boy wasn’t even trying to dodge; he kept where he was even if she charged horn-first, guaranteeing herself a good blow to his legs and maybe even his belly. Whatever it took to get him out... But she wasn’t expecting the glow, nor was she expecting the swing and the punch right to the nose. The Rhyhorn roared, staggering back a few paces and shaking her head in shock and confusion. What the heck was that!? That was definitely something a human couldn’t do. Now she was hesitating to continue her charge, narrowing her eyes and glaring, pawing at the ground. She was weaker than before, but she could take another hit or two. This human was a pest.

Loki wasn't sure that the Rhyhorn was going to just charge at him again. After all, he'd at least gotten in a good hit--maybe more than one. He knew that his fire type moves hadn't been effective at first. Still, with the dual use of his Nasty Plot move? Now they were as effective as anything else. He wanted to capture the Rhyhorn. In the very least she was an admirably strong pokemon! So he decided to take advantage of her pause, not wasting a moment. Since she was just standing there like that, he silently used Nasty Plot again. Now his fire type moves weren't just doing regular damage. They were doing another couple steps up, even on Rhyhorn! Without missing a beat, he inhaled, and then a shot out a blast of flames.
Ineferno was a wider range attack, and hopefully it would hit. She was just standing there, pawing at the ground. Rhyhorn was heavy, and he was hoping that meant, along with her pause, that she wouldn't have time to evade. Maybe if she'd been moving, but at a standstill? He was hopeful in the least. The flames shot toward his rival with an alarming speed, like a wall of burning doom. And if it hit, that would be exactly what it would be: she'd suffer damages not only from the strong fire attack, but would burn too. He cringed inwardly to think of it, but he'd get her in a pokeball and she'd be all right. She was a fighter, he knew she would be.
"Sorry, but you asked for it!" he told her, shifting his stance so that his weight rested on the uninjured leg. He was preparing for his next move, even so. If he were lucky, the powered up fire attack would seal the battle's fate, and he could take a moment to clean and bandage his leg. It wasn't comfortable, but it was already starting to clot a bit. He would be fine to continue battling, if need be. Or, if he caught her and used a potion on her, they could battle together. He was undecided. He'd have to see just how this went.

WILD POKEMON APPEARED! [/style] Rhyhorn || Female || Rock Head || Ground / Rock || 06 Horn Attack || Tail Whip || - - - || - - - || The Rhyhorn took a moment to evaluate the situation; this was going badly for the both of them, it seemed. She was slowing down, and though this was her own territory, the human didn’t seem to be getting the gist. Was he battling her over this bit of land? He better not have been, because she had won it fairly from a Charmeleon. But still, she wouldn’t be up and around much longer, and it wasn’t like she could fight others with serious injuries until she healed.
The pause leant too much time to the opponent though, and the next thing she knew, there was an intense blast of heat that seemed to raze the whole area to the ground. Unable to move on time, it was a direct hit, and the Rhyhorn actually slid back a few paces on her feet from the sheer force of it. There was no way she was standing up to that, and as soon as the fire cleared, she collapsed near instantly. So much for protecting her territory; the human may as well have burned the whole place down.

He wasn't sure, for a moment, what would happen. Then, much to his relief, the Rhyhorn went down in a heap. He pumped his fist in the air, and then removed a pokeball, tossing it at her with satisfaction. His first real capture! He still wasn't too sure what to do about the Buneary. It was still on his shoulder, and now that he had Rhyhorn, what did it want to do? Well, he wasn't going to leave it here. So with that, he tapped Buneary with his pokeball. In went a second pokemon, and out she came, just like that, to sit again on his shoulder.
Now he could check out his leg. Kneeling down to inspect it, he saw it was mostly a mess of scraped off skin. Oh, it would turn purple and leave a nasty bruise, he was sure of that. He'd been lucky it hadn't been worse, though. He went into his pack, his little friend on his shoulder looking with concern at him. Taking out his first aid kit, he cleaned the wound and grimaced. Damn that stung! But Rhyhorn was his, now! It had been worth it. And once cleaned, though it looked a bit messy, the injury wasn't even as bad once again as it had looked at first. He bandaged it and then pulled down his pant leg.
"Bun?" The little rabbit like pokemon asked. She was wondering if he was all right, and he grinned and winked at her.
"We're all good to go! It's not even as bad as I thought it was, so let's keep going and see if we run into more pokemon, okay? I still have a few pokeballs left, and I'm not about to give up on catching a couple more now. Then we can head back into town and get Rhyhorn fixed up and go for dinner!" He liked that idea, and buneary tilted her head to the side, smiling. She liked it too!
He stood up, pleased to find his leg only stung a bit, and shouldered his knapsack. He had two pokemon he hadn't counted on. What was to be done with them was undecided, but he might hit up the trade center and see what others had for sale, or maybe even the breeding center with the female Rhyhorn. He was, as a whole, completely up for anything. Neither of the pokemon were of the kind he'd been looking for, but that was okay. He had two to work with, and that was better than none. As he walked forward he kept his eyes peeled. That battle with the rhyhorn hadn't been easy, even if it was a bit predictable. Since rhyhorn didn't have many attacks, he'd been lucky to get off as easy as he had. If he found anything else that interested him, he could capture it if he won. That thought cheered him immensely. Today was turning out to be pretty damn good, after all.
